I have 2 male GP's, both under a year old. Was feeding them 2nd cut Timothy Hay, but noticed they were wasting alot of it and I was sweeping it up and throwing it away. I changed them to 3rd cut, thinking that may solve the the amount of waste, but it seems to be the same issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have a C&C cage with two hay racks for them.

Piggies do waster hay at times I'm afraid, but it is always better to put too much hay in than too little.
We feed a good quality meadow hay and then Timothy as well, you sort of get used to the amounts to put in over time if that makes sense, but I still clear a little out each time

Thank you for the welcome! I live in the US. I do buy fresh hay from a company called "small pet co". It comes boxed fresh. I fill their hay bins half way...by the middle of day, they are empty, half the hay on floor of cage....they are very selective with the pieces they eat. Do you think I should start mixing other types of hay in with the Timothy?

i think a selection of hay maybe useful.maybe place some in a hay tray.i give orchard grass oxbow hay,it is all never a strand left .i use a farm bale of meadow hay for bedding ,foraging and using in piles.

My three have 3 hay trays full which are topped up a couple of times a day and a wicker tunnel (meant for hamsters) stuffed full of posh hay which they love. The wicker eventually gets chewed through. Loo roll inners stuffed with hay work well too.
