I've read that you should clean the water bottle daily and add fresh water. I'm wondering how necessary this really is. Since our tap water sometimes has chlorine added and is very "hard" water (causes calcium/lime deposits), we are giving the piggies store bought bottled water. But in order to clean out the water bottle/add fresh water, I end up wasting some of the water (which I don't want to do since it's not 'free'). How often do you all clean out the water bottle in your cage? Or can you point me in direction that will explain the reasons behind this, etc. clearly?

Thank you!

Even though you are using bottled water you will still need to empty it everyday as it will have bits of food from the piggies mouths in it. They tend to have food in the mouths while sucking and bits go inside the water bottle.

I would suggest not filling the bottle completely so there is less "waste" at the end of the day to throw away

I don't know if it helps, but I also live in a hard water area. However, I have a filter jug: [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/BRITA-Marella-Passion-Water-Filter/dp/B0014BKDVU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1342039461&sr=8-5"]BRITA Marella Cool Red Passion Water Filter Jug: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home[/ame]

I fill their bottles with water from this everyday, you may find that a little cheaper and less guilty about water being 'wasted'.
