I'm having an issue with one of my guys at the moment. They have two bottles, but only ever drink from one (doesn't matter if I swap the bottles around, move them about. They only use one). The other one gets ignored and never touched. But Arthur likes to bite the bottle and basically empty it, sometimes within minutes of me refilling it. I've seen him drink from it properly, so it's not a case of him not knowing how to use it. He just seems to enjoy biting/chewing on it.

I've gone through several types of bottles already, and currently using a Living World one. It doesn't leak, but I'm still having the issue where he comes along and empties it and the fleece ends up soaked. Is there anything I can do to protect the fleece a little? I've put a tray under it, but it seems to still leak down the side of the cage and under the tray. I've used a fleece pad. That ends up just as soaked, with the fleece still soaked under it. They won't drink from a bowl.

So I'm really wondering what I can do. I don't want them sitting on wet fleece.

maybe placing a ceramic bowl in a strategically place under the bottle.just change bottle pads daily.i cannot see another solution.thanks

Iggy does that too, little terror. Idk why he does it as none of the girls ever have! I use drying mats, the ones you put washing up on? They dry a lot quicker than anything else I’ve used and seems to protect the fleece :)

My piggies have 3 plastic bottles in their cage & they only drink out of 1. I'd put glass water bottles in. Just make sure you check for mould

They have two glass water bottles, and I make sure to change them every day (even if they don't drink from them) and try and dry the fleece off. I've tried the ceramic bowl under the water bottle, too, but it still seems to manage to drip down the side of the cage. Frustrating! I'll have to see if I can try a drying mat! I was thinking of trying a stand for the bottle and putting it in the middle of a tray, but I worry that it might fall over and hurt them as one of them is a bit of a bulldozer and likes to try and push everything over.

Your right about the full bottle on a stand, falling down. I should imagine that, it could be dangerous. Our piggie & rats water is changed daily, we have to watch the hamsters water because we leave there water every 2-3 days. How old are your bottles, because we found after a while the washers in the neck of the water bottle used to wear, stopping the bottle being water tight.

They're probably about 3 weeks old at most. They're not leaking, but the guinea pig is basically playing with the end and emptying it. No idea why he does it, but it leads to a very wet fleece!

Yea idk why they do it either! I can hear Iggy doing it, tap tap glug... tap tap glug 🙄 Then look over and see his beady little eye peeping at me from above the correx... I swear he knows he’s being naughty :))
