I have two questions for you guys today, anyone who can answer either would be very helpful. :)

First of all, For young piggies or piggies not eating we sometimes mush up pellets (with boiled water, then leave to cool etc). I tried this with my boys the other day (to see what they thought) and they scoffed the lot! I have problems getting my boys to eat any kind of dried food, they are so into their hay. After that, consumtion of normal (not softened pellets) rose dramatically for atleast a week.

My question is, is there any reason i couldnt do this once a month? It hasnt caused them to put on/loose weight or caused odd poos, but obviously if theres a reason not to, i will stop.

Secondly, Water bottles. I dont mind mine, they are very cheap, so after a couple of months they start to leak. But for £2 i just replace them. However, I have a C&C cage, and where the corex ends is awkward, as if i rest it on the corex the cage liner gets in the way and theres hardly any spout exposed. My piggies like to almost swallow the spout whole on the few occasions they actually drink. I have moved it up to rest on the bottom of the next square, which is the bottom of the 6th square, or the top of the 5th square up.

My question is, is this too high? (I would just wait and see if they can use it, but i could wait all day with my boys and not find out mallethead). How high up are your bottles?

Any and all help/suggestions welcomed.

Hi Connie
I have an assortment of water bottles. The glass ones have a long spout which they have all prefered over the plastic ones with the short spouts, they all have two and the glass ones are really the only ones they use. I've got two C&Cs with correx and they rest on the 4th square up, they're one square down on the two ground floor C&Cs which don't have correx. I guess it depends on the size of your piggy but this is as high as appears comfortable to them.
Mine drink a lot more since I switched to glass but I have managed to break a few so it's not the cheapest option!

I'm not too worried about the price (i mean i dont want jewel incrusted ones) but a bit pricey if they last is fine. I was worried, but the piggies seem to have had no problems drinking from it today so i will stick to what ive got for now, and change if i think i need to.

However, I am very gratefull for your input and will definatly be buying a glass one next time in needs replacing. :)

(Dont worry about breaking them, I manage (not thinking obviously) To melt my last one. mallethead I poured boiling water in it, thinking "that'll give it a good clean" forgetting about the plastic thing)

if i put my bottle low then my pigs strain there necks to go under and drink up so i keep my water bottle up as high as possible 'cause they like it that way :)

Fair enough! :) How high is high exactly Twiams? I dont think my piggies are straining to get to it, when ive glimpsed them, so am not overly worried. :)

I'm on the 4th square up c&c also. The glass bottles are so so much better, they last so well and are much easier to attach as they come with an extendable spring. Living world do them for about 6-8 quid. The snout is great to and the water comes out easier and doesnt drip. :)

I will definatly be investing in one of these at some point, thanks guys. Dont spose anyone knows about the softened pellets?

I have found the spouts get a little deformed then they leak after a month or so. These are fine though, just be aware that they will need replacing. :)

I don't see that feeding softened pellets would be a problem if the only thing you add is water.

I can't answer the pellet question but I use a glass water bottle with a long spout & my correx is 6 inches high, so rather than cut holes in it I have suspended the bottle inside the cage using the spring thing that came with it plus the white plastic holder that came with one of my plastic bottles. I like to have the spout fairly low down as we realised early on if the bottle is too high the pigs seem to either not see it or ignore it lol! My 3 are all very good drinkers :)

My piggies have not drunk any less since it has been raised. If anything they have drunk a little more so i am not worried :D
