Water bottles

How often do you guys clean your water bottles with soap? Mine loads from the top so I can refill it without moving it but I don't want bacteria to set in.

Do I just put dish soap in with water and give it a good shake and then rinse?

I give them a clean most days - dish soap, use a bottle brush and rinse thoroughly. But i also add rice into the bottle and give it a good shake as that loosens anything which may be growing inside and I also use a sterilising fluid (Milton) once a month

Ditto to the above except that I sterilise every 2 weeks.
