This may be a stupid question but does anyone have any suggestions about ways to give guinea pigs water other than those bottles with the ball-bearing in the nozzle? I have 3 bottles for my 9 pigs and each one leaks constantly! I've replaced them all with new ones thinking that maybe it was just because they were old & perhaps had limescale (or something) in the nozzle which was stopping the ball-bearing sitting properly. I've also tried moving them around the cage in case the hanging angle was wrong but nope, despite everything they are still leaking . I'm having to fill the bottles 2-3 times a day and have put plastic trays with sawdust in underneath each bottle to try & catch the worst of the water. I've tried bowls but no good as they end up full of sawdust & poo within an hour or so. Help anyone...? Thanks x

what make are you buying? I always find water bottles leak but shouldnt leak so much you have to put something underneath them... I buy the ones with tthe red lid/steel nozzle and its luck of the draw really!
You could try a water bowl but you will find they will probably knock it over as they tend to stand on it to drink and also you would have to refill it every day...

We use Ferplast sippys. There are pigs that will play with bottles and let all the water dribble down their chin so that could be your problem too?

I don't use water bottles at all, I find them a nuisance - I use another heavy type food bowl and change their water twice a day - that way they get fresh water and they love it! Hope this helps.

We have the classic colour tone ones and none of them have leaked.
You could try a bolt on parrot bowl? we have one of these because my baby pig is a tipper lol He loves to upturn the food bowl.

That would work well as a water bowl, or a heavy stonewear bowl

I found mine leaked to (various makes) but read somewhere if you fill them right to the brim with no air bubbles then screw the lid on this stops leaks and it really works. No more leaks at all. I assume it must be about vacum or something.

See, that's what I do - didn't realise that that could be reason that they don't leak. Need to get a new holder/clip for the bottle though as it's broken and it's not that secure.

you should really only use water bottles, water in bowls arent rally good, they can get stuff in them which can contaminate it and can make piggies ill.

I use the clear bottle with red end and 2 ball bearings. They do leak sometimes, i just think its something you have to put up with unforuntately!

Thanks for all your advice. I'm using the Classic colourtone ones at the minute but will maybe just try another make. Have just ordered a sippy bottle to give that a go as well. & now that it's been pointed out to me I've been watching the pigs drinking & my daft boy Billy thinks it's great fun to headbutt the bottle between sips which makes the wire vibrate & makes the other bottles drip - hmm, culprit discovered maybe...? :)) Thanks again. xx
