Water - Tap/filter .... Or Bottled?

I have seen several threads recommending filtered water - particularly for people living in a hard water area. I was wondering what people's view are .
.

Also, are there any brands of bottled water that are any good? I would imagine some are high in minerals . what should people look out for on the ingredients label?
 
I use the tap water at home, but our water is pretty good :)
 
Never tried any bottled water, but I just say if your water in your area is good just use tap! :D
 
I filter my water as I live in a very hard water area and have a bladder pig. A friend also uses bottled water (a specific brand which I can find out if needed) and then filters that which I know may seem a tad like overkill but it works and they have never had any bladder issues with their pigs.
 
I use tap water, never had any issues with the piggies but if your local water is harsh maybe filtering it is a good idea :)
 
Filtered tap water; it filters out minerals that can build up in the bladder or urethra, not just calcium. Many bottle water brands are actually fairly high in minerals and calcium.

I suspected some bottled water would be high in minerals and calcium.

details of the bottled water would be very helpful Helen.
 
Tap water filtered through a Brita filter. I live in a very hard water area and have had bladder piggies in the past so I won't ever give them tap water.
 
I have no idea what our tap water is.. I just run it so it's cold and I drink it.... How do you know if it's hard water ?
 
Do you get a lot of scale round your taps? if so it will be hard water. I think there are maps online showing hard water areas. Also when you wash your hair does the shampoo rinse out easily? if not then the water could be soft as I remember I could never rinse the shampoo out when I visited my cousins who had very soft water.
 
I was going to research this but now I got my answer , I get limescale on my taps s I will buy a filter for my Brita !

no, we don't get limescale around any taps.. just looked at one map and its says moderately hard..
 
I live in a soft water area but I still filter tap water through a brita filter.

I too would be interested in the name of the bottled water @helen105281 as the piggies are going in to boarding for a week soon and I usually take bottled water with me. I didn't realise some of it was high in minerals and calcium.
 
I think the OH would say I was a bit over the top if I gave them bottled or filtered water ... But now I am thinking I should :hb:it says we have moderately hard water in my postcode....
 
Hi there , my tap water in soft to medium (verable ) so I bought a Maxtra,, it is made by bRita, and filters water much
cheaper that the standard Brit a filter , it holds 2/3 lts , so there is always a supply, of fillter ed water
 
I give my two britta filtered water even though our water isn't meant to be that hard as I have a bladder pig.
 
Apparentaly there is a down side to H. P . E. A type filtering
it strips magnesiun , an important elerment that is important !

take out to much magnesium and the boddy can not prosses calcum as
efeseantly ,
if you are interseted there os lots of articals on the web
also the rabbit forams have done lots of rescerch on the calcium to mannesium ratio ,

Same as where I live.

When using Tap water my boys excrete alot more calcified wees and they certainly do not drink aa much.

I switched to a Brita and the wee is less heavy and they drink more.

Our water is very metallic in taste and cloudy alot of the time.

We have already had 2 electric showers replaced because of the hardness of the water. Both times they have been so furred up with limescale inside the element.
 
:D My herd have Maxtra filtered tap water, but I can't say that it has decreased the calcium deposits on the fleece. I still see them regularly, even though I no longer feed spinach or kale.

My Dom leaves Calcium patches, but they have significantly reduced since introducing filtered tap water, cutting out veg with high calcium content and substituting Parsley for coriander.
