Hi there,

This is my first post on the GPForum, which I joined because I want to do the best for my piggies, whom I acquired in April this year.

They were checked over by a vet when I got them and all was ok. Now I am noticing that one of them is always drinking. They used to go through about an inch of water from the bottle per day, but now they are going through almost a whole bottle, and everytime I come in the room it's the same one drinking (Fluffy). I have only noticed this in the last 3 days. I know it has been warm, but I am concerned that Fluffy is drinking all the time. On the other hand, Squeaky doesn't seem to drink much at all.

Am I being paranoid or should I be concerned?

Hi there :)

One of our guinea pigs drinks alot more than the others. I've had her checked for diabetes as our first piggie was diabetic and this can be a sign. She was all clear.

I think some just drink more than others, it may be worth taking her to the vet again for a check to put your mind at ease.

Changes in temperatures/humidity can cause short term changes in drinking behaviour. The water intake per piggy is individually very different, from not/hardly drinking to drinking a lot.

If your piggy is drinking regularly over 300ml in a day, then I would see the vet re. kidney or diabetes issues.
