How much water should a pig drink?

Neither of mine drink much (they are housed separately at the moment so I can tell how much they are drinking each).

I'm lucky if their water goes down by quarter of a cm in their bottle each day.

They get fresh every day

They get plenty of lettucy type greens along with their other veg and I know lettuces are typically high in water content so wondered if that was why?

some drink more than others, but piggies typically dont drink much, especially if they get lots of fresh veggies. dont worry!

cool thanks! :)) I read somewhere and I can't find whether that they usually drink quarter of a bottle. No mention as to what sized bottle though! And everywhere else said that piggies vary but generally not much.

Thanks

I got told of by my 14 year old daughter about water!

I was very busy over xmas and asked my daughter if she could clean my boys out. We have a electic water fillter, so we have cold filtered water on tap! (so to speak) I told her that the boys have filtered water. My daughter and her dad couldnt stop laughing!
They couldnt belive that I gave them filtered water!

Makes sense to me... why would you want your pets drinking something you wouldn't drink yourself right? You're a good piggy mum to understand xoxo

Lol - I get laughed at for that too. Both my cats and guinea pigs get filtered water out the fridge.

You spoil them :)) Mine get good old fashioned cold water out of the tap, but then thats what I drink too, none of this filtered stuff :))

40ml a day is the recommended for healthy piggies, it helps to flush the bladder out and keep it 'clean' (i.e. can reduce likelihood of sludge/stones). However most pigs get most of their water from their veggies, like cucumber, and from when their veggies are wet after being washed. My group of four empty two 250ml bottles a day, while my older pair barely have 10ml from the bottle.

Mine are also on filtered water as I live in a hardwater area - I find small calcium deposits in the cage if I don't use filtered.
