I am sorry if this is posted or answered elsewhere. How much water does your piggie drink? Bertie has a new water bottle and I am not sure if he is playing with it or drinking it. The paper is very wet under the bottle. I tried to put a dish under the bottle to see if it was dripping but "he who must be obeyed" realised it was a veggie dish and so tipped it up in case the veggies were underneath!mallethead

It depends. The maintaince amount of water is 100ml per kg per day. I have an elderly boar who is drinking a bit more than that. I have a feeling he may be getting some kidney issues. Is the bottle a big one? My herd have 2 of the 1.1L giant bunny bottles, and they tend to drip a bit when they drink, they usually get some down their chins and some dripping into the hay. You could always put some fleece and/or inco pad down under the bottle if a bowl isnt tolorated? Just to add, playing with water in the mouth can be a sign of dental problems, just something to keep in mind.

Many guinea pigs don't drink any water at all. They get the water they need from their veggies.

Of course you should always provide water, in case they want it. But you shouldn't worry if they're not drinking it, provided that (1) they're getting veggies and (2) they're not showing any other problems.

I think it is the flipping new bottle. I got him it because the other one was tatty. Gone back to the tatty bottle and he has drank about half an inch so far today. thanks for reply
