hiya

i hope this is in the right place - but how much water would you expect a 6 week old guinea pig to drink? i have one of the water bottles and i have been trying to observe what they have taken but it really doesnt look very much

so i added in a small metal bowl with water and they seem to bathing in it rather than drinking it

they are eating no problems and they have had some cucumber and brocolli - hope these are both ok for them

thanks

Many baby guinea pigs have yet to learn how to drink from a bottle. You are doing the right things. Hopefully they will discover the bottle soon and willt each other.

How much guinea pigs drink varies a lot between individuals - from nothing to a whole bottle (the latter of which needs to be investigated by a vet).

Some of my piggies drink very little as they seem to get water from the veggies they have (cucumber especially although not really nutritious) Melon and cherry tomatoes are high in water so feed moderately to prevent soft poos...
If you are particularly worried, wash the veggies and shake lightly before giving them to your piggies. Keep an eye on their poos as well.
They are very young and will master the art of the bottle :))

Ours don't drink much at all. We wash our veg and give it to them without drying it as Tracey has suggested and this seems to supply them with enough water.

Our two don't drink much at all either and they are 6 years and 5 months so they do know how to use a bottle. They do get cucumber everyday so i think they get alot of their water from that . xx

If you're worried put a bowl in as that's natural instinct whereas they must learn how to use a bottle so it depends if their mum had one.
It took about a week for me to notice my piggies water starting to go down, don't forget they all drink completely different amounts as we give them different diets and certain veggies have a lot of water in :)
