Watermelon

Hi everyone! First time posting a thread. I have two little piggy boars, Charcoal and Flint. Yesterday, they had their first taste of Watermelon. Oh my lord! They loved it! Ate every bit, even all the rind.

My question is, I know it says watermelon can cause diarrhea. Is it better to give them mostly rind and less of the pink middle? I'm wondering if I should just save the rinds and give them when my sons are done eating their slices? Guess I should have planted some watermelon in my garden!

I think generally it's ok to give a slice with the rind and flesh (we do), just as an occasional treat rather than a daily basis, check out the threads on here about veg/fruit recommendations/portions/how often for more tips.

We give watermelon as a treat occasionally. Only the flesh and we remove the black seeds too.

Welcome to the forum!
As people already told you it's ok to give it but not too often because of the high water content. And remember to always introduce new food slowly to see if they tolerate it well!

Oh, and please, don't forget to add some pictures of your piggies, we'd love to see them! (In the "introduce yourself" section or directly on the "your photos and videos" one!)

I think the flesh is much too sugary and has a sky high glycemic index. I give the rind (carefully washed) plus about 1 cm of the flesh with it. The rind always goes first - I guess it's because it's crunchy

Thank you everyone! I'll probably just give them some once a week or so. It's good to know the rinds are ok for them since they loved munching them so much. They both really hate the 'good' fruits from the list like strawberry or raspberry so they rarely get anything too sugary.
