Such a sad film, makes me think of pets who have gone :( and of those I couldn't bare to part with... :'( [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkirtbpz5h4&feature=related"]Watership Down - Bright Eyes - YouTube[/ame]

Oh I hate that film!
It's so sad!
x I love that song bright eyes by Simon and Garfunkel !

Make me cry though, every time. The lyrics remind me of a beloved pet that's passed and just looking into there eyes for the last time... The lyrics go so perfectly with the film as well!

It's about a band of rabbits fight for survival, and it also sees them triumph at the end, and win their quiet life up on the hill, away from danger, it has a lovely ending.. and it shows it's own version of Rainbow Bridge..
I've read the book, and seen the film..

I have never been able to watch that film it scares the shiiizers out of me! They played it at Christmas at primary school & I ran out bawling, been traumatised ever since & I'm now 31!

I suggested this for my class' song in end of year show, had the entire audience in tears, though in retrospect that might have been because our singing was so bad :))

Loved that book when i was a kid though, not sure I could read it now (all the death).

The most bittersweet part is the ending, esp in the book, I cried so much at this when i was a child, and even more today!

‘You’ve been feeling tired,’ said the stranger, ‘but I can do something about that. I’ve come to ask whether you’d care to join my Owsla. We shall be glad to have you and you’ll enjoy it. If you’re ready, we might go along now.’

They went out past the young sentry, who paid no attention. The sun was shining and in spite of the cold there were a few bucks and does at silflay , keeping out of the wind as they nibbled the shoots of spring grass. It seemed to Hazel that he would not be needing his body any more, so he left it lying on the edge of the ditch, but stopped for a moment to watch his rabbits and to try to get used to the extraordinary feeling that strength and speed were flowing inexhaustibly out of him into their sleek young bodies and healthy senses.

‘You needn’t worry about them,’ said his companion. ‘They’ll be all right—and thousands like them. If you’ll come along, I’ll show you what I mean.’

He reached the top of the bank in a single, powerful leap. Hazel followed; and together they slipped away, running easily down through the wood, where the first primroses were beginning to bloom.

When Roo-Bear died I watched the scene and it comforted me to know that he went to the piggie Owsla :)

a few years back had a bonded pair of rabbits, neutered male and a female, dutch blues they were. Had to go to the vets as the male broke his nose running round the garden, freak accident that was a 10000-1 chance. Took both rabbits together but only came back with one :(
wierd thing was on the way back (only a 5 minute drive) we had the radio on and bright eyes was on 8...

That's so sad :(
x I'm so sorry for your little rabbits freak accident!

I used to love this book but may i just point out this comment made me laugh ... it was in response to someone who said if you don't like it don't watch it kind of thing,

'One day you will hate it when you will see where it has led you, unspiritual person. It has destroyed many children's hearts, because it came from the demonic realm, frivol person. You're just like a spoiled child who whines because a dangerous toy was taken away from them.'

I'm sorry but what ? Watership down came from a demonic realm and destroyed kids ... nice. ?!

Sorry to hear about your rabbits 'Jacksonracingteam'... :(

I loved this film when I was little, watched it a few times with the kids too.

It is a lovely film but very sad.
I cry at bambi and dumbo too.
Actually just watched disney robin hood and nearly cried when all the animals are in prison but all helping each other.
