bit worried about my piggies eye ? it’s been watery since i got him (had him 5 days) and i’ve kept an eye on it but today i noticed it seems to be a little bit worse . also while i’m here can i also ask what constant itching may mean ? the piggie with the watery eye itches all the time but only when he’s around hay . could this be an allergy to hay ? by the way my other piggie doesn’t have any of these things

You should take him to the vet. If it’s only one eye he may have an injury or a plugged tear duct but if it’s both he may have a URI. Either way this is cause for concern and please take him to a vet that specializes in guide pigs!

My best wishes that he feel better soon!❤

ok ! thank you for the response ill be sure to take him asap

Another question since I can’t tell from the picture:

I’m assuming it’s crusty (because I think that’s what I’m seeing) and if so that is concerning, but if it is milky white discharge with no crust and it goes away when he cleans it, this may be his normal “cleaning fluid”.

If it does not go away, it is constant, crusty, or not milky, then this is still cause for concern.

EDIT: also since you said he is itching and it’s been 5 days I’d say that it is concerning but just in case...

it’s not milky or crusty but literally just watery which i haven’t heard any one else talk about on here ! the other one is also totally fine .
i’ll talk to the vet about both while i’m there :)

Yea, if it’s just one eye it’s definitely concerning and possibly may be an injury. Can you see any hay trapped under his eyelid if you look closely?

Guinea pigs don’t generally have allergies so constant itching and watery eyes is concerning.

no hay, the eye itself looks fine with nothing in it ! thanks for all the info

Okay well that’s good. I’d still take him to the vet in case it’s a blocked tear duct or something to do with his eye that is internal.

Hi!

I would have him vet checked. It can be just an irritation, allergy to pollen or dust, or a mild conjunctivitis, but it can also be a symptom for a non-ulcerating eye scratch or hay poke. Only a vet will be able to tell.

Clear eye fluid (that dries transparent) is not cleaning fluid like in humans, but is generally a sign of an irritation in the eye.
Proper cleaning fluid is milky white.

the vet just told me to go home and put a cold tea-bag on it and today all the weird watery liquid is gone, just what i’m sure is the cleaning fluid is there
