Isn't nature wonderful, I went to bed worrying about stillbirth, deformities and everything inbetween and wake up to a pile of 4 babies sitting beside a very proud mum. Everyone seems fine, one is a little duller than the other but I think, from the little bits of blood around, she has only just given birth....blood is still wet.
Have given her breakfast as usual, is there anything special I should be giving her veggie wise?
I think I was so sure things were going to end badly that I forgot to ask about after the birth!

Oh wonderful news. I really hope mother and baby are doing well. I cannot wait for the photos!

That's great news Lynda!

Refer to the link I gave in the other thread as it will cover most of your questions - diet is the same as pre-birth, calcium rich alfalfa or broccoli stalks, high Vit C veg, only real change is now you can increase the amount of dry food.

For the little one you mentioned a bit of one on one time with mum should ensure an extra feed or two per day. If this doesn't seem to help post again and I'll let you know what you can do to help.

hi, our 2 sows had babies as the third "sow" turned out to be a boar
you need to keep a check on mum to make sure shes eating well as they can become depressed, also she needs double the vitamin c as she has the babies to feed, babies will start to eat hay almost straight away and they will eat nuggets from the 2nd day, they normally jump straight into the bowl!
we used to weigh our babies every 2-3 days to make sure they were feeding well and gaining weight, which they will do rapidly, you can hadle them pretty much straight away as this gets them used to people, and you can determine the sex of them straight away although it is a bit harder, i was right on the sex of our 8 babies, but did check when they were bigger just to be sure
cant think of anything else at the mo, other than enjoy the babies

Congrats! It is always such relief when all has gone well!

Give her breakfast as normal and make sure that she has pletny of hay; both normal and alfalfa.

This afternoon or evening, you can pick up the pups and weigh them (daily until the end of the nursing period. Make sure that they are all suckling from mummy on both sides. Make sure that all are moving properly; if the litter is large, it can occasionally take some time for nerve endings in constricted legs to work. Any pup that struggles to hold up its head or is rejected by mummy will need extra attention. Mummy's milk bar can take up to a day to kick in; pups are provided for that.

Here is more information; there is a special section on afterbirth care:

Thanks everyone, have reread everything, will put up some pics tonight if I can. :(|)

Quick update on my little tribe, mummy is being wonderful...very protective but let me check the little ones over.

The quiet one from this morning is still very quiet and seems to have a small lump next to its umbilical, its not running round as much as the others and doesnt seem to suckle as much either. Will need to have a better look at its tummy once mummy has settled down again...she was getting upset by the time I got to checking the quiet one,.

Sorry no pics yet as I cant find the cable to upload them, have been doing too much piggie watching to go find anything today.
