I'm so excited, but am trying not to get my hopes up in case it doesn't work out.

But.. Dinky died last week and Charlie really needs a friend, last night I put him in the indoor run after Fitz and Roy so he could smell them and he went mental popcorning, he gets so excited when they wheek and really deserves a piggy friend.

Anyway I've been trying local rescues who so far have either;
a) had no single boars or none they deem "suitable" to try with Charlie
b) refused to consider bonding single boars
c) refused to rehome because we have children under 3
d) refused to rehome to us because we're too far for a homecheck.

But... I was going through the rescue pages on facebook, and found a girl on posting on the page of one of the rescues who's just got a rescue piggy who turned out to be pregnant, she had 4 babies, 3 girls and a boy so obviously the boy doesn't have a brother to be homed with so is looking for a home alone (the girl has a neutered boar already and two sows so can't keep him) He's ginger and looks just like a mini Charlie and currently is only a week old, but am hoping so much that him and Charlie may get along once he's old enough.

Aww I hope you get him and it works out for you and Charlie. We need pictures when you get him :(|) x

congratulations what lovely news :)) I'll keep my fingers crossed for the bonding....

:{ oohh i didnt know you could get refused for having children under 3 with the home checks...how bizarre!:{ I'm glad you could find him a friend though looking forward to pigtures :)

Fingers crossed - that sounds like an deal match!

Thanks all, as Dinky was so much smaller than Charlie I'm really hoping a "baby brother" will suit him and they'll get along, he's called Simba and he's beautiful, I have suggested to the girl she joins here actually. she's lovely and they're all in a huge C&C cage in her kitchen so in a similar set up to what we'll have here which is nice.

Fingers crossed for a successful bonding - Charlie really deserves a friend, he's such a sociable piggy and loves to play, I feel so sorry for him being all alone at the moment, every time I go in the door of the room he comes up to see me and I hate the thought of him being all alone at night.

yes one place advertising single boars on guinea pig rehome is here http://www.wythallanimalsanctuary.org.uk/rehoming.php, not too far from us, but as soon as I started reading the info we were crossed off for having kids under three as well as being about 22 miles away so out of their area for homechecks, shame really! It's not the only place I've seen saying they don't rehome to homes with young children

This was one little boy I was looking at http://www.wythallanimalsanctuary.org.uk/animal-info.php?section=rehoming&animalid=808

Babies are usually accepted by boars without problems as they are in no way able to challenge the dominance. You will still get some humping, though!

Sadly, many rescues are very wary rehoming to homes with small children after unfortunate incidents.

Oooh his mummy has advertised the two remaining girls on here!

He is lovely, good luck Helen :) I have bonded three times now (two neutered boar and female pairs, one gang of ladies) and it wasn't nearly as stressful as I expected...I find the trick is LOTS of hidden bits of veg so they are so busy munching, the don't notice the other pig til they sneak up and munch next to them!

Hehe just found this!

I am Simba's current mummy, well Grandma really as Nala is his mummy!

I am just sooooo pleased I've found someone that can offer him a lovely home as I was most concerned about finding a home for him. He's such a great little boy and I hope him and Charlie get on (I'm sure they will!). I think the fact you're willing to travel so far speaks volumes for your dedication to piggies :-)

Here is the most recent pic of the gang...

Simba is the ginger pig.
