We ended up getting another gp and it made Chip's day! He has been popcorning for hours and they are both loving eachother and making the cutest noises! We are even considering getting a third one, but he is currently being treated for a cold in his eye, so we'll see how he fairs. Getting Chip a friend was the best thing ever. I can't believe what a difference it makes in how they act. You can tell right away that they are so much happier! ;) Now, I do have a question though. They are both boys, FOR SURE, we triple checked. Two little wieners. ;D But, Chip, our big boy seems to be trying to hump the little boy Nemo. Is that normal? They circle eachother and jump around making all these happy noises, but the humping, I dunno? :o

Thanks to all that suggested we have more than one. It really and truly is the smartest thing you can do for a GP! ::)

Aww congrats! I guess you can't really know how lonely Chip must have been until you got him the friend. Maybe the humping is a dominance thing?

Mounting is to establish dominance. It's nothing to worry about, especially if they're both males and there's been popcorning. Congratulations by the way, can't wait to see some pigtures! ;D

You just wanna see pigtures of the porno! :P ;) ;D

They are seriously a happy pair.

Question though. Will it be bad if we add the third one? He was in with Nemo at the pet shop, but is still at the store being treated for an eye cold. Should we just leave well enough alone since Nemo and Chip are so happy or do you think 3 won't be a crowd?

You could take him in and isolate him until he gets better, as many people have more than 3 guinea pigs. As long as they all get along well I don't see why it would be a problem, just make sure that Nemo and Chip don't get sick as well.

And as far as piggy porn goes... I own my own rescue and have seen boy-boy girl-girl boy-girl and more... I meant pigtures of the boys just being sweet little piggies :P

The pet shop won't even sell him to me until he is confirmed better. I don't even have him yet, but I feel like I left him there. :-\ If we do get to bring him home we're naming him Shaggy. ::)
I hope they get along, because we really want him too.

That's really cool that you have your own rescue. I bet you've seen everything. :o In your experience are boys sweeter than girls? I've only had boys and they all seem sweet. Even Chip has turned sweet since we got Nemo. Chester was the sweetest pig of all though. RIP little man. :(

Boys can be sweet and girls can be sweet, just as they can both be rotten. It really just depends on the guinea pigs' personality.
