My piggie is around 6 or 7 years old. A few days ago she woke up when I was refilling her food and she wasn't able to really get up. She kept struggling to use her back legs so we picked her up (she didn't fight back as much as she always does) and put her into her fleece hut so we could clean the cage to make movement easier. After ten minutes we put her back in and she was fine and was able to walk. Happened today too, she was sleeping and felt a bit cold since it was cold outside, and when she woke up she could move her back legs but could not pick herself up by using them. It took her a few minutes to be able to walk. Other than that, she has use of her legs, only twice now when she woke up it seems like she struggles to get them working for a bit. From her walking, her hind legs do look pretty weak. She sometimes bunny hops and they kind of bend more than they used to. We did notice a year ago they both become a bit more slow in their movement but we just attributed it to old age.
When we put her on the floor she still runs around really fast sometimes (just a bit clumsily as he hind legs are more towards the ground as she walks or runs) but she also sometimes tends to try not using her back legs and extends her body towards the food if it is farther from her. Just want to know if anyone has an opinion on what it could be before we take her to the vet. We are thinking it is arthritis since the inability to get up happens right after she wakes up and tries going for the food and the rest of the time her hind legs are maybe 30% weaker than what they were months ago.
