wee drying white

ches has done normal wee's since he arrived but i noticed two wee's before that were dried white. i know that means too much calcium but i don't know what i have fed him to cause this.

he has had since he arrived:

spring greens
red pepper
yellow pepper
cucumber
baby corn
corriander
cabbage mix - white and red cabbage, carrot and kale (two small amounts)
savoy cabbage (two small amounts)
carrot (very small amount)

he has only done two wee's that have dried white. the rest have been normal.

I know that your only supposably supposed to give him one baby carrot. (thats what i heard on the last forum I was on)
I dont think your supposed to give them baby corn although you can ask around I'm not entirely sure. I don't know as for the rest. I had a chart somewhere but maybe you should take a look at this website! It should help! http://www.guinealynx.info/

i sometimes get white wees from my piggies but only now and then. Not sure if it is a major problem if only now and then but it would be good to hear from someone with more experience!

What dry feed and type of hay is he on? Piggie pee is naturally white, but when it dries white it is usually caused by excess calcium, though I doubt it in this case going by the veggie diet. I would look at the Ca: P ratio (in the Food section of the forum) and see if balancing it out a bit more helps. I found there were patches of white dried pee when I was feeding too little calcium, but now I have corrected the ratio there have been no problems (they even get parsley and kale/carrot and dill daily!).

he is on excel and has dust free meadow hay.

there was a few more dried wee patches today so i'm obviously getting the feeding wrong.

i'm changing the feeding to:

3 things daily which are cucumber, green pepper and corriander

with one of the following a day-

savoy cabbage
spring greens
red cabbage
celery
corn
yellow pepper
parsley
carrot
courgette
baby corn

hopefully this will get his wee back to normal.

i think it was the spring greens to be honest, he had them maybe too much.

i feel awful, feel like i'm getting everything wrong with him. got another thread on him aswell about him scratching etc.

Just a thought, but are you in a hard water area? With my first piggies, I didn't know that wee that dried white was a problem until both ended up with bladder problems. That was in London and the water was rock hard. CCT recommended getting a water filter, which I did and it made a huge difference. Where I live now, the water is soft as silk and I haven't seen white wee stains at all in the 6 1/2 years I've lived in Wales.

i am doing my best but it's different actually having the pet even if you have read everything possible about how to look after them! it doesn't help that everything i read is contradicting! i know it's just a case of getting to know the individual and adjusting things for them, i just feel awful that i'm not getting things exactly right.

but on a more positive note! - i've booked ches in at the vets just for a checkup and to check him for mites (other thread) and i've altered his diet and that should help with the dried white wee thing hopefully. it's only yesterday and today the wee has gone like that, it was fine before that.

seems ok today so far so the change has obv helped.

ches is happy and popcorning loads, and before when i got back from asda the buns come running over which they usually do, but even ches came out of his box to see me! x) then i was in the kitchen putting the veg away and he started wheeking for his tea! i know everyone else is used to this but it was a first for me and it was so cute! x) especially since the rescue said he hardly ever wheeks!

anyway, i'm sure i'll get more confident. i just want to d everything right for him!

guinea pigs, like rabbits, are very good at excreating Calcium from their digestive tracts, which is why their pee is creamy/white - from a guinea pig and rabbit lecture i had 2 weeks back. so tis v. normal. mine has pee that dries white too.

i don't know really to be honest but maybe a filter is a good idea just to be sure. thanks.

i guess if it happens occasionally that's ok, and if it turns into a regular thing then that's when it is a problem?

i'll keep an eye on ches and see what happens now i have tried to adjust his diet.
