Piggywiggie

This is not looking good8...

The two pigs we collected from the pet shop 2 weeks ago have been very ill. In my other thread I mentioned their gooey eyes, sneezing, wheezing...I was wondering if the fact that both of their bums are wet is linked to their illness? Their bums and bellies are soaked as theyre just not moving much at all-just hunching in their tube and getting wet with it. Ive been washing them with a flannel but I cant keep up

I know this isnt normal (right?) but is it a huge concern?

Also, Scampi is now coughing:(

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that someone else on here has said that if they're getting wee on themselves it's a sign of cystitus? someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I'd get them to the vets, just to be safe.

A wet tummy is what my pig had when she has cystitis and a bladder stone.
Get them to the vet asap. Theres also a good cream from gorgeous guineas that blocks the wee from the skin to stop amonia burns from the wee. Email them and they'll be able to tell you the name of it *** i cant remember what it was @)
Keep up the flanneling though as this will wash away some of the wee so you'll avoid the amonia burns for now.
You might be able to use vasaline until it arrives? Can someone shed some light on that?
Also make sure they are eating and drinking plently before you can get them to a vet.

Good luck and keep us posted :)p

They need to be seen by a vet as soon as you can get an appointment - they have fully developed urinary tract infection and will need antibiotics, painkiller and probiotics. The longer you leave, they trickier to clear it off.

I'm very sorry at the bad state of health your poor piggies are in!

Thanks so much everyone. Well we took them to the vet tonight and he has kept them in overnight8... So that cant be good, right? He said Scampi's chest was VERY rattly and it looks like they have a UTI aswell as a possible respiratory infection, well find out more tomorrow but I'm so worried...theyre only babies:(

Hes going to phone tomorrow morning when hell have checked them bth over again. To be honest it really desnt look good as today before taking them they were very hunched, wet, coughy/sneezy, eye gunky and off their food

Ill definitely keep you posted

How old are they? Which thread are you now using, this one or your previous one?
Is the wetness caused by urine or do they have gut problems? I would be surprised if two young (?) pigs had a simultaneous UTI.
As described, the signs are atypical of a UTI.
"Hunched, wet, off their food" are more typical of a gut infection, which is potentially much more serious than a UTI.
I hesitate to post these comments as I am in a minority of one, I hope it is a UTI.

They are in the best place now. They will be looked after and be made comfortable! Hopefully with some fluids, meds and some food they can pull through!

I'm rooting for them!

:)p

Theyre around 10 weeks we were told. The wetness is definitely urine as it smells of it but I'm not sure if the have gut problems. To be honest when I heard about UTIs I was incredibly surprised two young pigs had it at the same time too, and both with breathing/sneezing problems and all the other symptoms

I'm not very good in this area but the vet said we should have a lot more details tomorrow, I do hope so

I will use this thread now I think, I can always post a link to the other explaining the other problems

Thanks everyone for the support and ideas

I have just seen the other thread. Are you in the north of the county?

Just had a phonecall from the vet

They both have resp infections is the main diagnosis. Theyre on Baytril for it. They said Mini has conjunctivitis and theres nothing they can do about it. They said theres obviously some other problem but theyre not sure what:{

:(
I'm not really satisfied. They shouldnt both be this ill so young

Conjunctivitis is easily treated with chloramphenicol eyes drops from you local chemist, tell them it is for yourself. Two drops, three times a day.

"Other problems, not sure what" Really? I feel uneasy with that "diagnosis"

Respiratory infection? I would still have the thought of "hay-fever" in mind.
What is the dose of Baytril?
See pm.

Did they say what the cause was of the wet stomach was?

Sounds like they don't know their onions I would seek another vet who does.

Hope they will be ok.

I'm not really happy either. Wet tummy looks like UTI to me! Anyway, I recommend you stick with the baytril and make sure that they have some probiotic (can be got at vets or pets@home) with it. If they have urinary tract infection as well, the antibiotic will work on that, too!

There is a sticky thread on top of this section "recommended vets". Otherwise contact your closest specialist rescue and ask them which vet they use, if you have got one in sensible reach, as the vet they use should be pretty experienced! You'll find a list of rescues here: http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk/gp/centres.asp

All the best for your poorly charges!
