Was horrified to see a water bottle in a petshop last week being marketed as a 'week long' bottle i.e large enough to last a week! I got very angry and had to be taken from the shop in protest....

How can they say

a) it would last a week -for what animal, a small guinea, a giant rabbit?
b) surely this would make owners think they can leave the bottle up until it's empty and not give fresh water daily?

Mine are all given fresh water twice daily in this weather, so I was horrified to think what sort of message this bottle is giving out!

Rant over... thanks for listening!

That's just disgusting, even worse in this hot weather, when bacteria can multiply so rapidly. I agree, it will just make people think it is ok to fill up when empty. Who on earth markets these things, is there no research done, or is it all just down to making money. Awful. x

That is disgusting. I empty my boys' water bottles out daily and refill, and Milton them every week or 10 days. In this hot weather after I happened to leave my daily change to the evening instead of the usual morning and the bottle actually smelt mouldy and stale - after just one and a half days. I would never EVER leave my water bottles for a week.

Horrid! As a florist I am all too aware of water stagnation and the bacteria that can live in it!

Purple bacteria looks especially nasty!

Funny the things I know about! lol I empty my bottles daily I have large ones and change regardless of if empty. If they are empty in morning I fill up again. I wouldn't dream of leaving it for a week! Ewww!

That horrible!

I change my boys water daily. The only time it's in there longer is when I have to stay out over night and it's normally changed within about 30 hours then.

They're terribly fussy and would probly rather dehydrate than drink manky water @)

Why would anyone think that leaving their water for so long...Would be okay?
I mean, would they, as a human being, drink water that's been left out for longer than a day?

Who is the manufacturer? maybe we could write them a letter expressing our concerns.

What an absolutely appalling thing to advertise - would a person make a bottle of water sit there all week and continue to drink from it - I think not :{ so why would they assume it's ok for an animal to do so grrrr

Is it intended for a large rabbit, hamster, mouse guinea pig ? Sometimes this world defeats me :(

The best thing to do is to take it up with the manufacturer, the head of sales usually. When I have a complaint about a product, I find out the telephone number of the company and ask for head of sales for the particular product I am talking about...best to find out as much as you can about the bacteria that muliply in water, what type, what illnesses they can cause etc. I am sure if you let us know, a few of us will complain too, success in numbers :))

Don't forget to let us know how you get on, if you are able to chase this up.

The manufacturer clearly needs to actually learn about the animals it makes products for! pow-pow

That is utterly ridiculous, how can you not give fresh water daily.
We all like a fresh drink more than twice daily so whats the difference to your pets.
I hate blumming pet shops grrrr
They dont know their a*** to their elbow!!

That's disgusting. I'd like to see whether the manufacturers would like to drink some week-old water! :)>>>

GO FOR IT SOPHIE !!!

sheeeeesh i just can't believe the irresponsibility of the manufacturer AND fancy any decent pet store even contemplating selling it!! malletheadmalletheadmallethead

i would think trading standards could help you with this as that is clearly false advertising when any piggie owner woud change water at least daily

i am going to blow my own trumpet here as i also do it twice daily and i re cycle the water too

i always empty into my plant pots or flower bed

i think the pro biotic i use is helping the flowers too

Or worse still there will be people out there who stick in a week's worth of food and a week's worth of water and leave their pets to it for a week. THAT is wrong. Unlikely, but I'm sure some idiot somewhere will do it.

Good god i have got a right thing about keeping my bottles clean and dishes too cannot stand to see grubby piggy dishes. We would never drink from the same glass and use the same plate twice so why should our pets. My pets have as much pots and cleaning equipment as me and even have their own cloths and tea towels.

We have a sterilser which we use just how you would for babies. Our water is changed daily and twice when it is hot. The water left in the bottles gets thrown on the plants so we dont waste water!

I have so many bottles that we change every other day and another clean one comes out of the steriliser.

The thought of a week long bottle makes me gag. mallethead

That is terrible. I feel guilty if I'm in a rush in a morning so forget the bottles! It doesn't happen often and they get changed when I get home from work anyway so only an extra 1/2 day now and then! imagine a week old bottle it would start smelling and going yacky!

Good for you Sophie, would love to have seen you being removed :(|):(|)

YOU GO GIRL ...................
