Hi I'm just interested to know how much other peoples guinea pig food bills come to.

This is what i use for my 7 piggies.

Bale of hay is £3.75 which lasts about 7 weeks.
Dried grass 1.75 last about 2 weeks.
Burgess muesli £3.75 lasts 4 of them about 3 weeks
Wagg £2.17 lasts about 4 weeks
Other £1.50 last about 3 weeks

This is what i have spent today on fresh foods for the week

Romaine lettuce £1-00
Celery £0-68
Bag of Apples £0-77
Bag of mixed veg reduced £0-39
Cucumbers (0-68p each) x 4 £2-72
Bag of Peppers £1-38
Cherry Toms £0-58
Cauliflower £0-50
Bag of Carrrots £0-55
Spring Greens x 3 bags (0-98p each) £2-94
Bag of Kale £0-98
= £12-49

Plus my mum brings them an apple each and some curly lettuce on a sat :smitten:

I'm not wishing to come across as nosey but just wondered how it compared to others. :)

Hi Lindsay,

Almost the same as you really for veggies. I spend about £12.00 a week or there abouts for the 6. Sometimes my veg can overlap and I'll have more so I just use it up until its all gone.

Hay costs £1.35 a week
Readigrass £10.00 but it's for 18kg and I'm not going to run out anytime soon.
Exel £7.99 a fortnight.

mines £10-£15 a week for 3 piggies, including natural treats, hay, food and veg/fruit

I buy a bag of hay which lasts a month or two. I don't buy extra fruit and veg especially for the piggies, except for romaine lettuce and celery which noone else likes.

They just eat the same as us really fruit and veg wise, so no real extra cost.

i spend about £10 on veg, but i look for bargins or pick up reduced stuff where i can, also i share the veg ;D

£2.17 on wagg which lasts about a month
£1.70 on hay which lasts just over a week
£2.50 on readigrass when i can get it, but a bag only lasts a week so ill stock up next time ;D

this is for 3 pigs O0

can you all say how many pigs its for? I'm trying to work out if i spend the average ;D

I don't know how the rescues manage. You are all angels! :) Kelly mine is for 6 fed twice a day 5 veggies each. :)

i think i should really try the new aldi which has opened up i cant afford asda no more :(

i shop at asda, but ours often has reduced veg. i also work at sainsburys so buy a lot of veg from there/get reduced veg, plus use staff discount :)

lately we have been given vouchers for money off veg at work which has been handy O0 working at a supermarket has its advantages ;D

my asda never has reduced veg and hardly any offers. when i used to go morrisons it was alot cheaper they would have bags of veg for 9p etc :(

Not sure what mine comes to because they get whatever the rabbits are having generally ;D

Gosh this is going to scare me now

Aubiose £15 for 40 kgs every month
Hay about £15 a month
pellets £16 a month
veg appox £50 a month
Toys/treats appox £10

OMG thats £106 a month, probably conservative estimate too :o

Thats for 8 piggies and they are worth every penny :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Dare not even think ,just close my eyes and buy the veggies!

For 8 piggies -

1 bale of hay - £5.40 - lasts approx 6wks
1 bale of Bed-Down - £5.00 lasts approx 4wks
1 bale of Readigrass - £9.50
1 Sack of Wagg - £9.95

Veggies each week
Romaine - £1
Celery - 68p
Cucumber halves x 7 - £2.38
Bag of Peppers - £1.38
Tomatoes - £1.08
Bag of Carrots - 55p
Kale x 2 bags - £1.50
Baby S.Corn x 2 £1.78
Green Beans - 89p
Honeydew Melon - £1
Herbs x 3 - £1.50 (Mint, Basil, Dill, Parsley, Thyme or Corriander)

Apples & Bananas aren't part of my "Pig Veg" Shopping :)

hmmm I'm not quite sure how much i spend as i just pik things up when its needed sometimes one week i can spend a fortune and other barely a penny just depends really most of my money goes on veggies and hay though lol ;D

Mine is pretty much the same as Niki's minus the bed down and the tomatoes, and plus the grape and parsnip ;D

I have 2 piggies:

1 bag of bedding hay - which lasts about 6 weeks - £5
Herbage hay - which last 1 month - £4
Pellets - which last 1 month - £4
Cardboard stuff/carefresh - which last 1 month - £4
Probably spend £2 - £3 a week on fruit/veg - I try and go wherever has offers or reduced fruit/veg.

Have you thought about buying some fruit and veg at your local market? Our local market sells massive curly kale leaves bigger than the size of a dinner plate :D
when you buy it in the supermarket its cut up into tiny bits in a bag and its usually gone with my two piggys in one sitting. Not everything is cheaper than the suprmarket but it's worth a look. My Boar George loves his veg and he popcorns about when he gets kale and squeks like mad for it and usually squeks while he's eating it :D
I buy fresh veg every day and spend a fortune on high vit c veg cos my piggys are so worth it, I am veggie so they do share it :)

I have 7 guineas, for 1 week roughly:

Wagg - £2.17
Hay - £5.00
Greens (3 cucumbers, 3 celery, kale/spring greens/cabbage, carrots, apples, cauli, lettuce) - probably about £8. Difficult to work out as I buy stuff for us and them.

It certainly adds up doesn't it. This is part of the reason why I've decided not to have any more, the 3 boys are under a year so hopefully will have them for many years to come. I'd like to get a pregnant rescue again some time in the future, but at the moment I won't be getting any more.

ps forgot to say. This is a winter bill, summers are cheaper :D Wonderful grass ;D

i spend about £30-40 on dry food, hay, toys and treats a month

and around £12 per week on veggies for 7 :)

Mine is erm rather high as i'm a total fuss pot ::) ::) ::)
I now buy the bags of spinach leaves and mixed lettuce but i would buy at least 4 bags a week and they're 4 dollars each and that's just the start... as the boy can not be bedded on hay i save on that but i have to wash his towels daily so water costs etc...
ahhhhhhhhhh stuff i don't care he's worth it :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
and if anyone in the family mentions it i GLARE and then politely tell them to flip off as they get fed very nicely too >:( so there ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'm hopeless i buy him the best of everything and no brown leaves no old food no nothing i'm so dam scared of him getting sick over anything i've become paranoid :D :D :D :D

awww thats sweet glynis, i dont give mine rotten food but i love seeing the odd bargain in the veg section, i only buy it if it looks like its still living lol i dont buy anything thats off colour, growing mould or anything ;D

Wow most of you guys spent alot. Compared to my $5 a week for my guinea Kuma lol. 8)

My three arent too bad.

I buy most of it from a horse supplier so get it mega cheap!

shavings £5 lasts about 2 months (i clean everyother day)
big bale of hay £3 lasts about a month
sack of Excel £18.99 lasts about 3-4 months
treats...mine dont really like the shop bought ones, so they have some of Jasmines to try and they usually refuse!
fruit and veg is the big one, I dont buy "set" things, I just go to the farm shop, and if I think they will like it, then I get it...usually £3-4 per week...
