Hello I just joined a few days ago and have a question.

My two boys are called Gizmo and Timmy.

I want to try and work out a rota of food so that my boys are getting their daily vitamin c, without giving too much of the veg you shouldn't give often, but keeping some variety.

Therefore, has anybody made a 'weekly menu' on what their piggies eat in regards to veg and fruit. There is so much info what veg should only be served once a week or twice a week, and it is confusing :-(

Also, can anyone advise on what veg and fruit is safe and nutritional to give on a daily basis?

After reading the 'food' post on here it only states the types of food they can eat but it doesn't say how often?

Cheers :-)))

  4. Edible Weeds on the Shelled Warriors website. It's tortoise-oriented so it's worth cross-referencing whether any particular plant is safe for GPs but the photographs are excellent for identification. My three girls love Dandelion, Sow Thistle, Groundsel, Plantain (the plant, not the banana), Chickweed (once a week), Raspberry and Apple leaves but aren't too keen on Bittercress. I like the way that weeds suddenly become a crop which you harvest for as long as they are there to be had! Avoid Buttercup and Ragwort - mine will won't touch Buttercup when they are in the garden but I remove any Ragwort, including all the roots, as soon as I spot it and I've not had any come up in the back garden for years now.
In the winter (or if the garden is soaking wet) I give my piggies (each) a piece of carrot the size of my thumb, a couple of inches of cucumber (with the peel left on), 3 to 4 inches of celery (I always buy the bunches with the most leaves in the middle), a Romaine lettuce leaf or (small) cauliflower leaf, a small sprig of parsley, a slice of apple. They don't always eat it all, sometimes leaving some of the carrot, celery, cauliflower leaf rib or apple but they always finish the Romaine and the parsley. Two or three times a year they get a seed bar. When I can I give them fresh grass and weeds for lunch and a reduced amount/selection of the winter menu for tea/dinner/supper.

Hope that helps.
