Weepy Eye - Please Help

Hi

I've noticed this morning that one of my girlies, Scruffy, has a weepy eye.
It's the same eye she had a scratch on when I got her, but that was about 2 months ago and was treated and cleared up.

I did post a week or so ago as I has noticed she was making a strange sound, like clucking, I thought she was sneezing or coughing, but I had some advise on here and it may have been because she was eating too fast!

I also noticed I can actually see her breathing, her sides seem to move noticeably when she breaths.
She has been like this since I got her too and I asked the vet to check her over, which she did, she listened to her heart etc and said everything was ok.
At that time she had the scratch so was obviously treated for this but otherwise the vet said she seemed fine, maybe a little over weight.

I'm now worried incase it was something else after all, she hasn't made the sound since and her breathing is not noisy, she is eating and drinking as normal but she does have this eye thing!

I can't take her to the vet until monday so can anybody give me some advise on what to do with her eye until then?
I've thought about bathing it with warm water, is that ok to do?
Also I still have the drops I was given for when she had the scratch, it's called Fucithalmic viscous eye drops, should I use that?

Also could anyone give me some advise as to what might be going on, could it be something more serious? and what should I be asking the vet to look for?

Sorry for the long post, I wanted to get as much info down as I could, I've probably waffled on abit! :red
 
Sorry I can't actually offer any medical advice but I hope Scruffy's eye heals up soon and all goes well at the Vets on Monday - hopefully they can put your mind at ease.

It seems to have been pretty quiet around the H&I board today so fingers-crossed somebody more knowledgeable comes along in the morning, if not before.

(Btw I've always thought it was normal to be able to see a guinea pig breathing, as with mine, but I could be wrong.)

Sorry to hear about your piggies eye. Until you can get to the vets, try bathing the area with sterile (boiled and cooled) salted water. The eye drops that you were given previously will probably be out of date now. Once they are opened they have a very short life. If the drops have gone off then this could cause further irritation. Good luck at the vets and I hope you get the problem sorted quickly/
 
When the weepy eye started, can you attribute it to a fresh change of bedding or fresh hay being put in the cage? Sometimes there can be an environmental cause of weepy eyes, and given he seems to be otherwise well, he may 'simply' be sensitive to allergens in his environment.

I have a 4 year old boar with chronic weepy eyes, it is a clear discharge but quite chronic. I have tried treating with eye drops but not come across a long-term solution for him; luckily it doesn't bug him!

Have you tried homeopathic eye drops? euphrasia eye drops i think it the right name my mum used to use them on a friends pony who had runny eyes where they could not find the cause...
 
I have tried homeopathic drops but they were given orally to relieve allergy symptoms, but his other problems have eased and now it's just these weepy eyes. He sleeps deeply and poor chap has streaming eyes when he wakes up! I'll look into the Euphrasia then and see how they do. Thank you. :)

I suppose she could have poked her eye with something, they have hay for playing in etc and they have their hay for eating in their racks.
The hay on the ground is quite spikey, they were cleaned out today but I noticed her eye yesterday, so not really sure.

The weepiness is a white-ish colour and it seems to well in the bottom and corner of her eye, then creates a crust.
I've given it a clean, but within an hour or so it's back.

Poor Scruffy, I seem to be noticing all sorts with her, I noticed she has a lump between her front legs, it feels like a fatty lump and it moves, best get that checked too tomorrow. :(
 
Every hour is very frequent, but it is normal for them to secrete a white fluid when they groom themselves - is it possible you're seeing the weepy eyes right after she's groomed herself?

From your previous post it sounds like the eye may not be draining the fluid away very effectively; it may be worth flushing the eye with cooled boiled water and massaging the bottom corner of the eye.
