this may sound like a silly question, but why do you have to weight your piggies.

I have never done this

i dont think mine would sit still long enough

what kind of scales do you use.

It's a good idea to weigh them every now and then to make sure they're not losing weight.

i have some digital scales that weigh in grams, have had them for years but don't know where to get them from now.

You can put a bowl on and reset the dial to zero so it's only the piggies weight on the reading.

because if your piggies get ill, they sometimes dont show any signs...so you could just wake up one morning and they are at deaths door. Weighing them helps you monitor their size, food input and get the clue you need to see if somethings wrong and act before its too late. I use kitchen scales ;)

ok thanks for that

so what is the right weight for a piggie

i have very small kitchen scales and i cant see his bum fitting in there

I use kitchen scales ;) I weighed them all today and clipped nails, teeth checks its best to do them at least once a week as someone else said better to pick up on things before it is too late.

theres not really a 'right' weight, just take a note, check it once a week to make sure hes not loosing weight would be my advice :)

Agree with everything that has been said. There is not a right weight range, however, a sow should not weigh less then 800gms and a boar 1000gms. Having a little bit of extra weight is always better. ;)

So true :)

Our scales are pretty small, but they sit in the bowl with their front paws on the side!

I've got a digital scale and a bowl on top that i put Duke in. He gets weighed daily because of being so ill, i know exactly the time he drops weight and to call the vets asap. Before that it was always a weekly weigh in for them :smitten: :smitten:
You could always pop them on the scales with a little treat, they'll be more interested in the treat and you'll have time to read the scales that way ;)

i weight mine about once a week just to check they are putting weight on as they are still only 4 months old.

i use my kitchen scales, with a bit of cucumber to distract them while they sit in there
