Hi. Just been viewing some other topics and it talks about weighing your piggie. How on earth do you do that? I have weighing scales for food which would work fine providing you can get the little monkies to stay in the bowl. i never even thought of doing it to be honest. It's probably a good thing to do seeing as though Jasmine is sick and Belle seems stressed. what does anyone think? ?

the easiest way is to have an electronic weighing scale with a flat top, where you just sit them onto, like sitting on a board. You can then do the weighing yourself.

however as I am neither rich nor modern :P I bought a cheap old fashioned weighing scale once, which I only use for piggy purposes. it has a deep-ish bowl on top. It takes two people though, one to stand next to the scale and make sure piggy doesnt jump out, and person two to take the reading of the scale. The piggies get used to it after a while and will actually hold still, which makes it easier. I do it every second time I clean out the cage.

If you havent got a piggy scale yet, I would recommend going for the first sort though, they are just so much easier.

EDIT:

I dont' have digital ones but use a normal kitchen scale. What I do is put an empty transport pet box on the scales and set it to zero get one of my pigs put him in the box and then weigh that way. ;D So I cheat! :)

That's true but mine will jump out otherwise. I need to get some digital ones they are just so costly and i know Emily will nick it to play shop! I'm going through scales like no tomorrow because she breaks them weighing her toys! ;D

Maybe the answer is to put the scale in a big box then put your piggie on top of the flat portion. Mine had a flat portion on it but comes with its own bowl. Might give this a try with Jaz later or tomorrow. Thanks all. It seems I ought to take up residence in the vet's at the moment. My guide dog has just just gone in for a very minor operation. She's limping bless her tand they can't find the cause. It's my third trip in as many days.

I got some digital ones for £4.99 from Lidl before Christmas. They are flat so i put an old book on , set it to zero and away we go. I usually put the scales on the floor to weigh them so there is no chance of a fall and just take my hands off long enough to get a reading and hopefully before they try to make a getaway ;D

it was the first time i'd weighed mine the other day and i used an old 2ltr ice cream tub which i placed on the scale before. I don't know if it was just because they hadn't done it before but they all sat nice and still for me, even the baby. I was very suprised it was so easy :) I did it on the floor as well as i'm not risking a fall again after Inca being paralyzed before.

Ice-cream tub? I like that. Definitely giv it a try. i have a jumping piggie too. twice today she's shot by me as I've tried to get her out of the cage and jumped straight off the top. She will do herself some mortal damage if she's not careful. Silly little thing. She's scaring me not to mention herself.

These are my digital scales that i use just for the piggies, they sit so well.

Here is Jimmy modelling the scales.
