Weight concens

I have a pig who's 13 months now, and he's tiny, but is fat and healthy. His mom was very young when she had him, but I think he should grow more. My females are the same size as him and they're about six months younger! I haven't weighed him but I'd say he's about the weight of your pigs.

So some pigs can just be small pigs.

But if they feel bony instead of plump then they probably are underweight. They're gaining weight well though which is good. I'd say just keep feeding them a good diet like you are, because it's working. And it's best for them to gain weight steadily I think.

Oh my goodness my Esme is Huge I've never had a baby pig before but using your weights. She's 5 months now and 838 grams. Guess it goes to show pigs do come in all sizes my Milo over a year but he only weighs 850grams :o

I think it depends on how they've been kept as well, I expect quite neglected piggies are more likely to be smaller due to a lack of nutrition when growing.

I have two new little piggies, one is a runt and considerably smaller than his brother, I need to weigh them later as have just got them from the rescue, but when I held them temporarily a couple of weeks ago the little one was supposedly 12 weeks old and only 450g, he's called Dinky because he's so small.

Weights can differ enormously, and runts happen in larger litters, especially in overbred sows or sows kept in bad conditions - and those boys were from that background. Runts will never grow very big, but they can lead happy and helthy lives nevertheless.

My Telyn is another huge rescue born baby - she was 550g when I got her at eight weeks old (and not much smaller than her mum Taffy at that time) and hit the kilo at six months old, but she stopped growing quickly soon after havng reached her potential fairly early on. At 18 months old, she is now a rather fat 1300g. The good care for mum and pups they get at the rescue certainly makes a big difference!

I do also think you just get small pigs, Milo was born in rescue he then went to a new home were he was well cared for you could tell.

He neutered at 6 months but he was quite small, so I do wonder if neutering him stunted his growth or perhaps he's at his full potential.

Although if what I got told was true my Fred was apparently 18months when I got him but weighed 876 grams, now he's over a kilo. If his age was true it means he's had a growth spurt at 2 yrs old.
