Weight difference

Hi guys,

So I picked my boys up today for cuddle time and I've noticed that stevie is much chunkier so I weighed them. Stevie is 752g and Bruno is 598g - it's quite a difference and I just wondered if its normal - the thing that's weird is that Bruno never stops eating and will blatantly steal stevie's peppers or whatever if he finishes his own portion first so I don't think there is food bullying going on?
 
They’re all different builds, like us humans. I don’t weigh the same as my siblings and that’s fine. If Bruno is eating fine and putting on weight regularly (do you weigh weekly?) then he is fine. But there’s also no harm in taking him to the vet for a general check.

How old are they?

OK, thanks, I will weigh them weekly from now on - they had a vet check a few weeks ago and they're really well-- I didn't know whether also Bru is more active than Stevie - they kind of have a chilled big brother and crazy little brother thing going on.

They are 12-16 weeks (the petshop couldn't tell me exactly which is why I refused to leave them there and insisted on taking them home with me immediately!)
 
Always best to weigh weekly so you can check they are gaining weight as yongsters and maintaining it as adults, sounds from the weights like they are 5 to 8 months old maybe? But our piggy cousin girls Piggle and Puggle have very different weights, when we got them age 11 and 12 weeks little Puggle was 390g and her larger cousin was 420g, now at almost 2 years old Puggle is a petite 950g and Piggle is our heavienst piggy at 1250g- despite being born to sister mums in the same hutch and having exactly the same amount of food and exercise everyday for their whole lives- Puggle is just small, and Piggle is just chunky!

Thank you, that's so reassuring. The petshop could only tell me they were between 8 and 12 weeks (which is why I refused to leave them there as they also couldn't tell me their names or anything) and I've had them for 5 weeks so they should be 12/13 weeks to 16/17 according to them? It wouldn't surprise me if they got that wrong though!
 
Just those few weeks difference in age might account for the weight difference, they can sometimes gain up to 50g per week at that age :) though there's no accounting for pet shops sometimes, but their weights sound good for that age range- try weigh weekly and just look for a steady increase monthly, there may be 30g ups and downs just depending on if they just peed or not! X

Thank you, I rehab wildlife in my summer holidays so I'm used to hedgehogs who lose 20g and then just die on you. I have to keep reminding myself the dudes are pets and part of the family not patients with other issues!! I will weigh them every week from now on. Luckily one of my neighbours is a good friend and a vet nurse at our practice so she will pop in and check them over for me 😊
