Hi everyone,

Is it normal for your guinea pigs weight to fluctuate a bit each week? I weigh my boys every two weeks and record their weights on a weight chart. I've just noticed that Paddy's weight has been fluctuating each time, for instance he lost 12 grams, then gained 1, then lost 12 g etc, it just seems to keep going up and down. The most he has ever lost is 20 grams within a two week period and that was a few months ago. He has gained since then but also lost as well. I just want to know is this normal? Both boys are eating, drinking and pooing normally and often popcorn everyday. Paddy has recently (over the past 2 months) assumed the alpha position over Rohan, so I was just wondering whether it could be stress, as the weight fluctuations started around the time he became the leader.

What are you thoughts? :)

Yes, completely normal. More than 50g or so in a week is a matter for concern, but anything less can be the difference between a full bladder and an empty one. Try to weigh at the same time and look for a downwards trend rather than focussing on these small fluctuations
