Weight gain?

After Buddy died, Pepsi lost a lot of weight. He's gained a little of it back, but not as much as I'd like. Is there anything I can give him that is fattening or will otherwise help him gain weight? Someone told me to give him a sprinkle of uncooked oats every few days, which I'm doing. Anything else?

Oats isn't something I would give to be honest. What is his weight? If he is eating ok, and not loosing any more weight? My rule is fruit, veg, pellets and hay. They don't need anything else. Maybe just give him a bit more in the way of veg. I've noticed my lot put on the pounds when I they get extra veg which is usually at the end of the week before another shop. :)
 
yeah, he eats like a pig (i can hear him at night..he's a noisy eater)

he always has unlimited hay (either timothy or orchard grass), a fresh bowl of pellets each morning, and then whatever fruits/veggies I dig up for him, which usually includes(not all at once) carrots, green peppers, bananas (not very often) zucchini, strawberries, and other things lol.

no oats? I had like 5 cavy savvy people tell me to give him some. hmm...
 
corn on the cob is supposed to be quite fattening, so maybe give him one of those. As for the advice, i couldnt say anymore than what otehrs have said. Plenty of everything else and give extra veg to the littlun.

I think some people recommend oats as a fattening food, but not sure I'd ever do it. I'd just give regular veg, maybe twice a day instead of once, for instance.
 
Mine love corn on the cob. Don't just feed him the corn, give him the green outside leaves too. I know that they don't look very appealing and very dry looking, but mine actually prefer the leaves to the corn.

It sounds like you are doing everything right for Pepsi. If he is eating well, perky and bright eyed, then just keep doing what you are doing.

Have you given any thought to getting him another companion as that might help him.
 
my parents have made a firm 'no more pets' rule, so i doubt I'll be able to get him a new mate. i will (hopefully) be volunteering at the shelter soon though, so idk if I see a female piggy who seems right for him, things may change.


the green things are good for them? interesting. i never knew that!
