My Sienna went to the vet last Sunday, and was diagnosed with a URI, she has been on antibiotics (0.2mg Septrin twice a day) and eye drops since then, whilst we were at the vets she said she was underweight and that she could feel her pelvic bone and thought she would only weigh 400g that is how thin she feels. Sienna was weighed at 900g by the vet, we have been weighing her everyday and she seems to be fluctuating between 880g and 885g, we have been feeding her lots of veg everyday but she can't seem to gain weight, what foods are fattening to Guinea Pigs and will this help her gain weight by eating them? She is very lively and is getting lots of kisses from my other 2 indicating she is still not well. What can I do? ?/

That's what I thought considering she is only 9 months, but when you pick her up you can feel her bones and now the vet has confirmed that she felt underweight I am now worrying about her.

888 grams for a growing sow isn't a bad weight, I have a male boar who weighs 864 grams he doesn't have the best health due to age and ongoing condition but his weight is a good weight for him!

So even though you can feel her bones, do you think she is healthy enough?

I can feel my pig's back bones, at 9 months she's still growing. I'd be more concerned about weight loss.

I would weigh weekly and monitor her - as she's ill you should be weighing daily, if she is consistently losing weight she needs topped up with syringe food and a vet visit.

we weigh her daily, some days she goes down or up 5g others she stays the same. She sin't really loosing much as the next day she could of put 5-10g on.

Hi love...... they do go up and down daily, by as much as 30g......depends on when they've eaten and how much they've wee'd and pooped!
I know this as i've been thru this a few times, and going thru it again at the moment.

Sweet corn, the husks and the silks are ok and can help with weight :)
