JP was neutered a week ago and although he seems to be recovring fine and the wound is healing well, he has lost 11g since the op. He is still eating veg, though not wuite as much. But doesnt appear to be eating much hay or pellets.

Is this normal? SHould I be worried? I rang the vet and she said I could give him recovery diet but she said its a mix that goes in the water and to be honest JP doesnt drink that much water, he hasnt since we got him. He seems to just be happy with the water from his veg. So would it be worth using recovery diet? Is there anything else we could try?

Thanks for any help you an offer.

11g is a very small amount of weight, nothing to worry about at all. Remember he has lost a particular part of his anatomy that will have been a part of his weight prior to his surgery... :)

Not sure what sort of recovery diet the vet is thinking of, but a powdered mix (whether homemade or commercial) has water added to it and is syringed to the pig!

The slight loss of appetite is of a little concern. Is he pooping normally? This can indicate if he's eating at a normal rate/as much as usual; a pig who is not eating as much as usual will have fewer poops of a different 'quality'.

His poops are a little smaller than they were, but still penty of them. He still comes out of his snuggle bag eager for his veg when I put it in, but then in the morning there is a little bit more left over than usual, but I guess I could have been giving him little more veg than normal becuase I was helping him try to recover and maybe he hasnt wanted the extra.

The vet just said its a mix that goes in the water. It would be a commercial one so would probably have instructions on the packet anyway.
We will weigh him again today and see how he is.
