Hi Gizi, don't panic..

10g weight loss from one day is nothing to be concerned about it can just be a wee... Have you being weighing her weekly? How much weight has she lost overall?

Hi,

Don't worry, 10g grams is nothing, the difference between a full and empty bladder can be as much as 30g. We weigh our piggies once a week at the same time and record their weights, don't become obsessed with weighing them. By keeping a chart you can see trends in their weight, thus you are able to spot if anything is not right..
Have a look at this sticky... http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...ght-checks-and-overfeeding-guinea-pigs.38805/

Yes I am weighing her weekly. She was 485 last week and she was 486 this afternoon! She didn't just loose 10g in one day it was in around 4 to 5 hours!

Right, okay are we talking about two different piggies?

Right down their names in a post and there weights over the past few weeks on this thread so we can see each piggies weights

Gizi the onelosing weight now - Earlier today - 486 Now - 468 Last week- 485 Before Last week - 463

Honey - Earlier Today - 903g Last week - 961 Before last week - 908

I was talking about Gizi Earlier.

Right lets look at Gizi Pig first

So Gizi was
Historically - 463g
Last Week - 485
Today - 486
Now - 468

Nothing to worry about here just normal fluctuations. As Lisa & Ali have said above 30g weight losses can occur throughout the day with wee's and poo's we have witnessed this a lot when weighing piggies daily.

The key to weighing is weighing at the same time each time. So always a certain time of day say 8pm. So you can take into account what they have eaten etc...

Now lets have a look at Honey pig...
Historically - 908g
Last Week - 961g
Today - 903g

It looks like Honey had a huge Spike in weight on her weigh in last week. Had you weighed at a different time from normal? As this week she is the same weight as she historically is from the information you supplied.

It is very easy to panic when weighing daily and there are natural fluctuations so make sure you are weighing in a routine e.g the same time each weigh and always before or after tea. e.g We weigh weekly on a Sunday at 8pm they eat tea at 6pm so I know each week the piggies have been weighed in a routine so I expect roughly the same weights.

With weight loss it is a trend you are looking for, so losing 30g a day one day but going back up 30g the next day would be a normal fluctuation however losing 30g one day then 30g the next and then the next would start to ring alarm bells

I usually weight them at night at around 7pm. I could have weighed her at noon but I don't remember. I was really happy when honey gained weight last week because I though she had come to a good home with a friend at last. I'll keep a watch out and see. They do need a check up by the vet, so i'll take them next month unless there is some sort of emergency! These are my first actual pigs, I volunteered at a shelter before and I wasn't the one that weighed them so I don't know about that much. Gizi should be gaining weight as she is still young right? I just have no idea what is with her only gaining 1 gram after a week :(

How old is Gizi?

How old is Honey? That kind of weight fluctuation can happen a few weeks in when piggies are moving onto a richer diet in a new place.

The rule of thumb is:
1 oz/30g daily fluctuation between empty/full bladder/tummy
2 oz/50-60g go on alert and keep an eye on the piggy re. further weight loss and any signs of illness
3 oz/90-100g red alert. See a vet. if the weight loss has happened within a day or two, you need to see a vet as an emergency and start hand feeding because it means that piggy has stopped eating and drinking.

Gizi will put it on gradually, Weighing in a routine is vital. Wiebke's advice on weight loss above is excellent so keep it in mind.

Honey's previous owners told me she was around 2 years old, They had her for a year.
I'm really not sure about her age but she is an adult
