A short while back Pixel was loosing weight. To cut a long story short she had an x-ray and dental at the same time. The x-ray showed that one kidney was slightly larger than the other and the dental went well. Pixel managed to put some weight back on then about 10 days after she started to loose weight again so back to the vets she went for another check-up. While she was being examined on the table she started to tilt over to one side, Another x-ray and dental check up was done and nothing was discovered. So to cover all angles Pixel was put on metacam, baytril as well as panacur (e-cunicculli). Pixel put on a nice bit of weight - almost back to what she was before the dental. She had a follow up (Monday) and because everything was going so well the advice was to stop the baytril on completing the 10 day course and continue with the panacur and the metacam. Since then Pixel has lost 50g. We have restarted the baytril and she will go to the vets on Monday. Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on? Many thanks.

The only thing I can think of given my own boy's recent experiences is that when the anti-biotic is stopped & they start to lose weight again it means whatever infection they have is not under control & of course getting worse once the med is no longer fighting it. Having had Peanut Butter on various anti-biotics in 2013 & again just at the end of last year it seems that one course is often not enough.

I agree with Lilly, it could be she needs a longer course, sometimes 10 days isn't long enough. I would run it past your vet though. Also, the Panacur may need longer to work.

HI, we have had to take Pixel back to the vets for another check-up. We noticed last night that her weight is fluctuating but mainly going down ( a few grams at a time nothing too large) She also showed pain when we touched her back at the base of her rib cage. She has been having baytril, metacam and panacur. The vet is reluctant to do much at the moment- just a case of wait and see although he is concerned about kidney disease so has told me to stop the metacam. Pixel has a very healthy appetite, is not drinking more than usual and has no visible blood in her urine. Can anybody give me advice about kidney disease for example signs and symptoms I should be looking out for or whether there is anything else it could be given the symptoms Pixel is showing. Many thanks.

This is a tough one, as there are no outward signs. I would suggest the next step being taking blood to check for kidney, thyroid etc problems and check her blood glucose.

Sorry I'm not much help. Kidney problems are usually associated with increased drinking and urinating and weightloss.

X

Thanks very much for your reply Abi. So far the only outward sign is the weight loss. I've spoken to another vet this morning who has given me more advice and made another apt for Pixel x
