Hi my taz has lost alot of weight he use to weigh 1.34kg and now weighing 9.98kg he has been to vets and they sedated him to check his teeth and all ok he has no blockages and passing poos ok he eats his veggies etc but vet cant understand why is there anything i can give him to boost his weight up again

Hi! Please start supplementing him with syringe feed; whether that is mushed up pellets, recovery formula or a mix - whatever is going in best.

Guinea pigs often drop hay as the first food group due to pain or discomfort. It makes up to 80% of the daily food intake, but it is hardest to control how much is actually eaten. Weigh your boy daily at the same time in the feeding cycle to monitor his weight. You first aim has to be to stabilise his weight before you can think about rebuilding.

Has the vet considered hyperthyroidism or diabetes? Both of these conditions can cause weight loss, even though the guinea pig is eating normally. Blood tests would be required.
