Hi, my year old piggy (boar) has lost so much weight. I took him to the vets and they checked his back teeth, did xrays & filed his teeth a little but I dont think that was the problem. He is eating but he does have a much fatter brother, same age. I have seperated them when feeding & Pinky does eat. His breathing also sounds rattly & he oftens gags during eating. I've noticed also recently, he's getting a really wet tummy! I'm taking him back to the vets later today but wondered if anyone had a ny ideas as to what could be wrong?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to you and your piggies to the forum :)
Pinky really needs to see a vet who understands and treats guinea pigs all the time....
Weight loss is not good, it means there is something and the vets need to discover what it is now.
Could you please tell us where you are? Someone maybe able to suggest a cavvy savvy vet for you :)
I'm concerned about the rattly breathing also for little Pinkie.
Wishing your little piggie all the best, please update us XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Not sure, but if the teeth where filed then they were a problem and will have caused weight loss. if the other boar you have was more dominant then he may have been bullied into not eating much. The wet underneath may be urine staining. If hes breathing is rattly he needs antibiotics too, which will also account of weight loss. Please see a good piggie vet.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi, thanks for your advice & concern. I'm taking him to the vets tomorrow so will hopefully know more then and will let you know how we get on. I live in West Sussex, and our local clinic seem really lovely but I do think they cater mainly for the larger pet. Fingers crossed we can get some answers!
Thanks
