Weight of guinea pigs....

Hi... thought I would ask what the average weight of a guinea pig is? My boys look a bit plump so I weighed them... Howard weighs 1180grams and Vince weighs 1300grams. They can clean themselves ok but wondered if they needed to go on a little diet like there Mummy! Thanks!

looks fine to me, my mums is mahooooooooosive weighing in at 1457g! hes a right chunky funky boy x
 
They seem fine. :) My friend has two who are 1500g and they're not fat, they're just right!

My boar Meeko is about 1250g and he's quite small and not fat at all, I actually think he could do with getting fatter!
 
A good adult weight can be anything between 800g -1800g, depending on the size and breed. Most adult piggies are about 900-1400g, with some piggies remaining tiny and a few becoming real whoppers. Your boys are pretty average, I'd say! I hope that explains why there are no wieght charts for guinea pigs!

As important as weight is condition. If your boys are lively and active and have opportunity to move around with a good, mainly hay based diet, then they are not in danger of ever becoming obese.
 
i have just made a thread about weight. So I apologise in advance for that as I only just seen this thread.
my boy is 18 weeks old and weighs 550g, is this a good weight or not for my lil fella? x
 
If you've had a look through TGPF weigh in thread you will see I have a rather chunky boar, Sam, who weighs 1490g. He's still very active and is quite a big pig overall so I'm not worried :)
 
I think you kinda know when you're piggy is a good weight. It edepends on the piggy itself, e.g. Caramel is one of our 6 month old boars and already weighs 1kg. He's not fat, he's a big piggy and you can tell it's a good weight. Biscuit is a little skinny because of his recent and prolongued helath issues but at 740g, he isn't seriously underweight. He's the same age as Caramel but he's just got a smaller frame.

I estimate that Caramel will get up to a good 1,200g to 1,300g while Biscuit will be under 1kg.
 
Bubbles is a whopper and comes in at just over 1500g but he is what I would like to call big boned! He does have a big strong face and although he's my dominant boy he is quite shy. George is a respectable 1300g and looks just right to meinbreeding
 
This is a good thread. :)

I weighed Maisy about a month ago, not as often as I'd like, but she'e not been too brill recently because of this ovarian cyst that she has. She was about 1450g then.

My son and I weighed Dotty this afternoon, (she is now 9 months) and she was approximately 1160g, though this did go up and down a bit, but tend to hover around this mark. I hope that is a good weight as she looks a bit podgy and has a big bum, lol.

My male boar guinea pig is, we think around 7-10 monhts old, he has a big belly on him and weighs 998g which by the looks of what people are saying on here is an ok weight, I thought he might be a bit over weight but he seems just fine which is a relief :)
