hello

i have reading some posts and found that weighing the babies is good to ensure they are gaining weight

Tink is 247g
Cherry is 278g

they are both 6weeks - is this a good weight? so i know whether to weigh weekly or daily just now

thanks

Hi

The weights of your piggies are very small for 6 weeks old.

The average weight of a 6 weeker is 400g (this is the minimum weight they should be rehomed at)

250g = 3 weeks
300g = 4 weeks

To help build them up I would recommend giving them their dry food (one with a high protein/fat content = 17%/4%). Plenty of meadow hay, a little treat hay (alfalfa would be best at this age). A small amount of veg as you need them to fill up on the body building dry food. As an extra you can soften a couple of tablespoons of nuggets (Excel would be my choice) with warm water, allow to stand for 10 mins and then offer to the babies - most will enjoy them as they are easier to eat.

ETA weigh them every few days if they are gaining nicely - every day if you are concerned. Once they have hit 400g weigh once a week.

thank you

i thought it was a bit low

they are eating there dry food through the night - will cut back the veg treats and encourage dry food and the hay x

a wee update

my weight were slightly out - cherry is 290g and tink is 260g

weighed them both today and they have both gained 5g each so i am pleased with this x
