Hiya

I've just started weighing my guinea pigs, what is a healthy or normal weekly amount for an adult pig's weight to increase/decrease by and at what point do you start to question any gains or losses as being too much?

Hope this makes sense, not sure if I've worded it very well!

Misty is about 1kg and I think that is about normal and Sooty if sometihn like 800g but I suppose it just depends on hte piggie aslong as they dont get too fat.
Aslong as their weight doesn't increase or decrease too quickly I think it's fine

you can say, a weight change of 30g is nothing - because it could just mean your piggie had a good wee before you put him on the scale.

if it gets into the 75 range, I would keep an eye on the weight definitely, and if its getting into the area where the piggy has lost 100g, I would probably contact a my vet just to make sure.

Anything over that IMHO - red alert.

Hi Gemma,

My younger ones are steadily gaining 1 - 2 oz per week. The older ones seem to fluctuate; most weeks their weight's the same, others they've lost an oz but it's almost certainly back on the week after & sometimes more ;) I hope that helps
