I was wondering what is a healthy weight for a female guinea pig? I have 5 females who are all different ages, breeds and sizes. They weigh: 986, 841, 871, 810, 750 grams. Are these ok? Thank you :P

Piggies range in sizes depending on age. What age are your piggies?

Guinea Pigs generally reach maturity between 12-15 months, this is when growth, hormones and weight will settle down. Adult piggies can range anywhere from 800g-1800g, although somewhere between 900g-1400g seems to be the average as a whole.

The most important thing is weighing your piggies regularly so you know their normal weight range.

They range from about 4 months to 2 years old we adopted most of them so are unsure of their actual age. There's just one we were worried a bit about because she looks quite big.

There is no ideal weight ratio in my opinion as every piggy is different i have all boys and they range from my smallest at 900g to my heaviest at 1600g but every one is different size and shape no matter what the gender. I weigh mine weekly and i keep a record so i can see if any has lost weight so i can see if any problems. Its good practice as allows you to see what they are weighing and allows you to detect problems early :)

How long have you had the big looking one? What is her weight and age? have your piggies come as a group or have they arrived individually? For pet guinea pigs, the weight is at the lower end but within bounds; however, a number of yours is not yet fully grown yet.

Guinea pigs are usually at their heaviest in their prime around 2-3 years old. 750g is a good weight for your youngest.

I would just continue them on a good diet and not worry, however! My two 7 year old arrived here as mature sows with just 800g of body weight, yet they are outliving all my others! ;) The third oldest is my teddy Nerys, who always was a big girl; she was nearly 1500g in her prime. He much smaller sister Nia only passed away this spring at nearly six years old.
