I tried looking for a weight guide but couldn't find anything other than broken link in the new owners section. I'm hoping I haven't missed it somewhere else.

Pogo and Percy are about 5 months old - how much should they weigh? And how much should they be putting on each week?

We've had them 2 weeks. Pogo was 81.3g last week and 81.9g this week. Percy was 70.2g last week and 71.9g this week. They clearly haven't lost any weight but I don't know if they're putting on enough weight either.

They seem to be eating plenty - they have access to unlimited hay, hay pellets (although they don't seem to eat much of these), they get fresh veg every day and apple once a week.

That is a good gain especially as they are in a new environment. If they are eating well and enjoying lots of bay I wouldn't worry. Do you have any pics of your piggies, bet they are gorgeous.

Oh, I did just find a bit about weight in the daily care section.

But I'm still not sure if they're gaining enough?

Oops, cross-posted.

Thank you Patch! They're in my profile pic but I don't know how big you can make it, so here they are again (any excuse to show them off! lol)

Are you sure you have read the gramms right. 0.8 = 800g

To be under 100g at 5 months would be birth weight or less.
If in kg their weight is good and they look healthy.

Hmmm....I don't know! I have never used a digital kitchen scale before, I've always used mechanical ones in the mechanical ones!

I just weighed them again so that I could check. There is no . they're 813g and 719g. Doh! I think I need to go get my eyes checked again 😂

That makes a lot more sense now and the weights sound healthy enough though weight alone isn't a good guide, its checking the feel of the heft that's the best method for checking for overweight/underweight

That’s good healthy weights for the boys x My two boys were around 830 gms and 750 gms at that age, I keep a spreadsheet of their weekly weights, I would advise you to do the same (doesn’t need to be a spreadsheet, you can write it down in a book) it’s really useful as a reference, especially if they are off colour, weight drops are good indicators that’s somethings not quite right before any symptoms x your piggies are gorgeous x

Thanks y'all. They do feel healthy and I do a weekly body check and all seems as it should.

I do keep a note of their weights each week for tracking - I use the excel app on my phone. 😊

Hi!

The old guide has been replaced with a new one; you have unfortunately just hit the gap. It is back in the Daily Care section and the links in other guides have hopefully been all updated. If not, can you please tell me where I may have overlooked an embedded link?

Ca. 80g are the weights of newborn babies! :yikes:

Please do not overfeed veg and pellets the more hay they eat, the better. You can add 1-2 handfuls of alfalfa hay daily; it is too rich for any guinea pigs apart from pregnant and nursing sows and babies but for your purposes it is better than pellets.
Plain porridge oats and a bit of mini sweet corn or carrot added to our recommended vet mix can help.
The weights had been read wrong. There was no point. So they are in the 800g range at 5 months.

Thank you; just catching up with this and correcting links due to the guide replacement.

800g is very good weight for 5 months. This means that the guinea pigs are past the fast growth phase now and will put any further weight in occasional spurts until they reach their optimal adult weight and size.
Fast growing youngsters will make the shift when they have reached around 70% of their ideal adult weight and size earlier than more steadily growing piggies. This can include weeks of no weight gain interspersed by a spurt, similar to how human children grow once they are no longer babies. ;)
