So my piggie has lost 51 g this last week. Is this a cause of concern? I read around on the forum that 50 g is a watch out sone and 100g is go to the vet? Also to inform you guys he is cut off veggies this last week since he had some soft poops but they’re almost back to normal, they keeps their form, just a little more softer than the others?
Can the cut in veggies have caused it?

Hi!

I would recommend to make a vet appointment sometime this week during regular consultation hours.
50g in such a short space, especially if it is still ongoing, should be checked; but it is not an emergency.

I would recommend to switch from weighing weekly to weighing daily and if necessary offer extra feed if the poos are getting noticeably thinner, smaller or less (rather diminished food intake).

Ok, I will talk to my mum:) so do you think it would be an ok idea to just get a health check up for them all at the same time?

Btw the poop is normal and he is eating, drinking and pooping so that is a good sign at least

Just monitor the weight daily and see whether the downward trend continues. Right now, it is not yet anything serious.

Ok, I will check him the next days, before going to the vet, my mum told me to keep an eye out and if it kept going down, we would go to the vet:) also I’m addin veggies to their diet again now since his poops are back to normal:)

Another thing: I checked the weight book and he has been going down 54 g since 03.30.19 not only this week, but he’s been going up and down and when I weighed him this morning he had added 10 g:)

Ok, so yesterday I posted a thread but I asked something more and no one answered, so here we go:
So my piggie has lost 54 grams since 03.30.19 should I worry? Also he is acting worried. I cut him off veggies last week since he and his cagemate (normal weight) had some mushy poop, can that affected his weight? He is acting fine and eating, drinking etc...
so

Sorry your question got missed.
It is a busy Forum and sometimes things do drop down the list before they get answered.

Anyway the weight loss itself isn't alarming, but the mushy poop is, so if you could tell us a bit more we can try and help.

How old are your piggies?
What does their regular diet consist of?

You said he is acting worried but you also said he is acting fine - does his behaviour seem normal?

Hi!
He is turning 3 this year, but the date is unknown.
It consist of hay 24/7, oxbow pellets and peppers, and other veggies.
Right before the mushy poops they got new pellets since they were empty of oxbow. Those pellets weren’t the best. They also just had a change in hay, to Timothy hay now and another type that is good for them, not sure the name.
He isn’t acting worried, he is acting normal. I was worried.
The mushy poops where just a few and only that day, I removed vegetables and they went back to normal.

Also around that time I tried giving them dandelion or the leaves if you know what I mean:)

@Thebubbypiggies It was probably the dandelion leaves that caused the stomach upset. It's best to give new things in very small doses at first.
It wasn’t the biggest dose, but I think so too. The poops keep their form but if I just squeeze them with out lot of force it does go together? But it isn’t like those mushy poops, and as said keep the normal form. I tried giving them peppers yesterday ( not a lot) and they seemed fine, he also added 10g Fromm yesterday to today, so if he goes up again and stays that way could it be the changes in hay, pellets and the dandelion leaves

So his poos are normal now?

That’s cool then, the weight will return to normal as they are eating normally again

Hi!

I have merged your two threads. In my first answer yesterday I have given you an answer to your question whether you should be worried.
We can only judge on the information you are providing.

If your piggies have had a tummy upset and you have taken them off fresh veg, then a mild weight loss like yours is perfectly normal and will right itself if they are well now. If not or if problems continue or recur, please see a vet for a proper investigation.

It would also help us to answer a problem if you please included vital information like that your piggies have had a recent health issue. ;)

PS: Please also accept that we are a UK based forum and that our hours of traffic reflect that. All our mods are generously giving a huge chunk of their spare time for free. None of us is paid or has set working hours. The forum is run by voluntary members' donations.
