Hello,

Some of you may have seen my other thread (housing) but we have a new little girl gp. She is about 4 months old which is the same age as our others - however she is twice the size.

Can anyone tell me how much a guinea pig should weigh (roughly) at this age. I'm not sure if she is overweight or our boys are underweight!

The boys are very active as they have a lot of space and run and jump around like mad. She has been in the shelter since birth so hasn't had anywhere near as much room and is more docile. I think this may be why she weighs more as she hasn't been able to do as much exercise. Are females a lot bigger than males normally? All guinea pigs eat well and look very healthy.

Generally with guinea pigs we dont say "this is the right weight" we say that they should be putting on weight fairly evenly untill they finish growing. some piggies get ahead, (so are bigger at 4 months) but then even out.

If she has been alone in a small space, I would be encoraging her to move around the cage. So when you give her veggies spread them about abit so she has to work to get them.

Can you give us an idea of her weight so we can judge if shes just growing quickly, or if shes in trouble? :)

Try not to worry, she might just be a hungry lass. :)

I take it your cages are average sized? (120cmsx60cms)
