Hi. I got a 2 year old male rescue pig in early July. And today I was spot cleaning and saw this weird ball. Is this a normal boar thing? I checked him all over and he and his genitals look fine. It was also pretty stinky.

No it’s not normal.
If it is poop, then It looks like he may have had an impaction.

I’ve added a guide which explains impaction further. It’s important to have a vet check for impaction, particularly in a younger boar. Make sure to keep a closer eye on his anal sac for a while to check more doesn’t form. See a vet if if does.

Hi

It looks like a small impaction mass to me. Please keep your boy on a very regular diet with ideally no changes and loads of hay but no or reduced pellets and no veg changes, and give him plenty of opportunity to walk. Admittedly not easy with piggy adults. Impaction is when the very last stage of the digestive process of poo formation and expression doesn't happen. It can be intermingled with normal poos, especially in the initial and milder stages when the disturbance is not constant.

Have a look at his back end, watch him wealking from behind compared to his companion and look how springy his step his compared to his companion. Malnutrition and a tiny cage (lack of strong muscle development in combination with an unsuitable diet too low in grass fibre) can sometimes cause impaction in younger rescue boars.

There are however some other medical issues that can cause these lumps so please have your boy vet checked, especially if this is not a one off. He is very young for it but impaction is not necessarily only an old age problem.
