Weird poops

my guinea pig Luna (he’s a boy) is having strange poops. So I took him off fresh vegetables, and have him just hay and some pellets. It’s been 2 days of just hay and pellets and his poop is still weird. My other male doesn’t have this problem and they get pretty equal amounts of food. The poops seem to have a small amount of mucus, but they are small and pinched shape. He’s only a year old, no inflammation on his bum. When he does the weird poops he’s quietly whining, so obviously it’s uncomfortable. He doesn’t seem to have low energy, maybe a tiny bit but I can’t really tell. He weighs 1.33kg, I will be doing daily weighs now. I’m going to take him to the vet, but is there anyway this is just diet? I think I was giving more than a cup.

Hi!

Are you weighing him once daily at the same time instead of weekly in order to monitor his food intake? You cannot measure hay (the mainstay of the diet) by eye, but your boy doesn't look like he is eating enough of it.

Please see a vet and step in with feeding support as soon as things don't noticeably firm up again with 24 hours off any fresh veg.
A persisting problem may as well lie in a pain issue that is impacting on the gut and not just be diet/digestion related. Only a hands-on vet examination can find out what is going on.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I’m weighing him daily now but I just recently got a scale because I didn’t realize just how important it is to weigh them regularly. So I don’t have much data on his weight. His poops are getting better but still aren’t perfectly normal. He still seems lively and normal. He’s very hungry still, and is eating his hay, I give them lots but I will start to measure it properly. Thank you for all the useful information!
I called the vet a couple days ago and they are overbooked and can’t get him in till Friday 12th. I’m in a small town and there aren’t many exotic vets close to me, do you think it will be okay till then since they’re improving? Or should I drive like 3 hours to get him seen right away? The poops are more full and formed but they still have the tear shaped end, yet they are moist (but no more mucus)

its good he is eating hay, but you cannot measure how much you give him - you simply ensure there is a large pile of fresh hay in the cage constantly. You also cannot tell if your piggy is eating enough hay by eye, the only way to know he is eating enough hay is to weigh your piggy. If he loses weight then he isn’t eating enough hay and you need to syringe feed

Please do syringe feed him a recovery feed (or if you haven’t got one, Then mush up his normal pellets with water and syringe feed that to him).
