hello,

my guinea pig gave birth to two little boys three weeks ago tomorrow (they are separated from mom because they are massive) and today i noticed one of them (almond) squeaking while he was peeing. i checked the other one (peanut) to see how "normal" male genitals of a guinea pig looked like as i had never owned a male before. peanut seemed like it was white, clean and healthy. i looked at almond who was squeaking while peeing and first saw a while blob on the end of it? really really creamy and white coloured. i pressed his belly and popped it out and it seems slightly red and a little sore compared to the other one? they were health checked last thursday and i was told they are "ok" but i don't really trust this vet as she didn't even recognise an pregnancy in one of my guinea pigs before! is this anything to worry about? what should i do to help the little guy?

thankyou :)

ps: i can post pictures if needed but it is uncomfortable for him and wouldn't like to flip him up again to take photos if there is no need.

Sounds like there may be some type of infection there. Use our vet locator at the top of the forum to find a local vet and get him seen to as soon as possible! Are both eating, drinking and pooping ok?

Our more knowledgeable members may be able to inform a bit more soon but it sounds like vet advice and likely antibiotics may be required.

The white stuff is semen; you will have to get used to seeing quite a lot of that!

We have got a piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar; I think that there are several listed for your area, so if you are worried, you can have it checked out again. A penis can look reddish and even purplish and still be fine. If it is blueish, it needs to be seen as soon as you can, though. it is difficult for us to guess just from your description.
I would recommend to see Hannah Bould at Taylor&Marshall; she is specialising in guinea pigs.

thank you both.

yes they are both eating, drinking and pooping normal and regularly gaining lots of weight.

due to mixed comments i will leave it a while and if it gets worse i will take him to a different vets for a proper examination.

Wiebkes advice is from far more experience than mine :) If you are ever concerned just take them to a vet for a professional opinion, but hopefully things are normal with your piggy!

Generally if a piggy is squeaking while seeing it's a sign of discomfort. Piggies are prey animals and hide illness well so if it's noticeable I would recommend a vet ASAP. It could be a simple UTI that needs treating but almond is clearly in pain at the moment
