Kanga is the last of the pigs that I had from Little Pip's. She is fast approaching her 5th birthday and has been dropping weight.
We went off to the vet as I had also noticed her drinking more, and we took a urine sample with us which showed bacteria and some glucose in the urine. So she had a week of antibiotics, and advised to cut out any sugary foods in her diet as she may have diabetes.
I had a good read up on here about diabetes, and food, and we gradually started replacing things in her diet which could be problematic. Kanga took her medicine, and the follow-up sample that I dropped in to the vet's showed that the antibiotics had done their work. I was advised to take her back in for a spot blood test to see if she really did have diabetes or not (apparently any stress can elevate this in urine so it may have been a false alarm).
We did this on Tuesday and she does not have diabetes :)
What she did have was a dramatic weight loss from one week to the next and she had dropped below 1kg for the first time since she was a baby. The vet said it was most likely she had a tumour somewhere, so we took her home, intending to spoil her rotten for her remaining days. At least with no diabetes present she can have her favourite red peppers again, and an occasional tomato!
I have been trying to keep her to her usual routines, so I didn't weigh her again until the normal Sunday morning check. And now I am feeling a little optimistic because she has gained 50g over the last week :yahoo:
If she keeps this up I shall be overjoyed. She's a dear little pig. Maybe it was the effects of the antibiotic that caused this dramatic loss? I don't know but I hope she carries on getting fatter!

I would also strongly suspect the antibiotics affected her appetite. What a lovely weight gain in one week. I hope she continues munching and gaining weight happily.

That's great news, I do hope Kanga continues to improve.

My Little Pips Piggies are both nearly 7 and have become quite frail. We just take each day with them now as a blessing.
