During the day when I'm away from my piggies, I teach year 4 at my village primary school. Our topic this term is the Vikings, and in literacy this week we have been finding out about Viking gods.
I didn't know that this was where the term 'rainbow bridge' came from. The Viking gods lived in a glorious castle land called Asgard. This was linked to where people lived in a more earthly realm called Midgard by the Rainbow Bridge. So the Rainbow Bridge linked Viking Earth with their Heaven.
There is also the frozen realm populated by the giants, known as Jotunheim, but I am not going to contemplate where that is in guinea pig terms...
Maybe I am the last to realise this, but I learned something new this week! I've not taught the Vikings as a topic before, always stuck to Egypt, the Tudors, the Romans etc before now, so I am learning as much as the children!
