So this was totally not planned but tonight we came home with a baby, pure white Abbysinian. I decided to name him Archie. Archie is sweet. When I first brought Archie into the room Alfie was at the bars of his cage happily sniffing around. I put Archie infront of the bars infront of Alfie, they immediately started sniffing eachother. Both Alfie and Archie were very interested in eachother. Alfie did do a purr and stretched out his body just like he does when I pet him and he is enjoying it. What does this mean? As I am writing Alfie is currently eating his hay out in the open, Archie is slowly coming out of his house. I divided the cage almost equally and that is how I will keep them until I decide they are ready to be put in a playpen, and then after the playpen if all goes well I will devide the cage like I had it when I just had Alfie and keep them together 🙂. Archie is already starting to take treats from my hand. Although what made me mad was that at the pet store the people who were getting him for us, said that Adult and baby boars can not be put together because they will fight to the death and you should get an adult. They are sniffing eachother through the bars of the cage, no rumble strutting or teeth chattering from either of them. What does this mean? I will keep updating. Tommorrow I will post a picture to get you guys’s opinion on if he is actually a male like they said. Alfie is doing his happy wheek! Right now at Archie.

I hope to have them fully bonded and living together by the 28th because that is when we are leaving on vacation and Alfie and Archie will be under another persons care.

Every time they go up to the bars to sniff Alfie starts purring. Now just seeing purring and rumblestrutting, (atleast what I think it is because he is purring and moving his bum)

I think I might keep them in the bars together for an hour, (is that ok or should I leave them in bewteen the bars for a whole day?) And then take them into a playpen and start bonding. If i dont have time will start bonding tomorrow

Okay! And i did just try to put them in a pen together and Alfie kept trying to hump Archie but Archie kept running away... what does this mean? And i just put them in the separated cage right now and they are both out eating hay. Although Archie and Alfie were very interested in eachother, Archie wouldnt let Alfie hump him. I know pigs dont do play dates so i will try for the final time tomorrow and leave them in the pen for 2 hours. Will update you guys on what is happening when I do that tomorrow
Looks like a male to me! But would like an extra eye from someone else so I don't mis-sex your pig 😅

Humping is completely normal. The rumblestrutting is also normal. If you hear teeth chattering, it is getting a little more serious but don't separate them unless there is actual fighting. They need to go through the entire process without interruptions. I think you will know if they are bonded if they are able to eat/sleep peacefully in each other's presence. If there is excessive chasing/teeth chattering/signs of lunging or one/both of them is/are obviously in a lot of distress, then the bonding may not have worked out. I think it will be very obvious to you if it does not work out. But let us know how everything goes!

Ok, there was no teeth chattering. Just rumblestrutting and Alfie kept chasing Archie trying to hump him and Archie kept running away. I dont know what this means. We will see how they do for the final time tonight,

Currently Alfie and Archie were just interacting through the bars, Alfie was sniffing and rumblestrutting and Archie was sniffing and biting at the bars

Congratulations on gaining a new piggy.
Archie is gorgeous.
Hope the bonding goes well.
The guides really are excellent. I would have gone to pieces last year without the guides and forum support.
Bonding can be very stressful for the humans
