Well Trained Hooman

In his old age Fred can't manage the required bend to collect his eaty-poops direct from the "source"
It's only as I passed him the fifth or sixth one that he'd delivered onto my chest that I realised just how gross it is (and how well trained he has me!)
:vom::vom:

I have no comment.

Am I the only one who never sees their piggies eating there feces?:hmm:

Probably! It's easy to miss. They do it so discreetly (not!).

Ha! Is it necessary? XD

Yes, it is a necessary part of their digestive process. It's easy to miss if you don't know it's happening. Guinea pigs don't eat all of their poop, and the ones they do reingest (called cecotropes) look different, almost like small green grapes. You usually don't see it because the piggie takes it directly from its anus. I've only seen one once. They do this because their colon further breaks down the food into simpler sugars that are easier to absorb.

That's interesting and gross! :)

Eaty-poops is such a brilliant word. I hereby declare it part of my family's vocabulary for eternity. :clap:

Ohhhhh.... That's still gross. XD
It seems gross to us because we aren't coprophagous. Poop isn't part of our diet. It's not gross to the guinea pigs. Some things we do might seem gross to them, like eating the flesh of other animals.

And yes, assisting an elderly piggie in its coprophagy (eating its eatey-poo) is a sign of a knowledgeable and loving pig parent.

That is true. :))

Eating other animals disgusts me more than the eaty-poops actually, but that's just me!

We used to call them chewy pooeys! Bub used to turn round and get them off the floor as he was too lazy to bend down and get them from his bum. If he was on my lap he just used to fire them out and let me feed them to him. I knew my place!
